Universale High flow cat.

Instead of blowing $150 for a high flow cat. Cant I just get a high flow cat from a domestic sports car ie camaro, which I get for $50 and save 100 bucks or is there a difference between? if there is a difference what are they. Any suggestions.

flanged edges are most likely different, and lenghts most probably different, but a mufffler shop should be able to rig it up, I was actually pondering the same question to get a high flow cat from a civic or somethin, cause I went to a muffler shop to get my leak fixed, and they wouldn't do it since i had a test pipe and no cat converter, they said it was a fine to work on car like that..so i didn'tfeel like sacrifing the HP to have it fixed...so oh well

I am doing full custom exhuast with the carbon-ti hks muffler. My muffler shop is actually bedning a down pipe for me so welding the cat on is not a problem. I was just wondering if the evo 8 "cats" has some special ... I dunno, something different from anormal cat. I didnt see any sensors so I think I will be find just buying a high flow cat for a different car and weld it on.

obviously for the extra money you're paying, you're getting a piece that is completely bolt-on. flanges, piping, welding, etc.

it's my understanding that the evo 8's cat is a high flow setup as is. it's also my understanding that without other major modifications that removal of the stock cat produced insignificant gains, so swapping the cat out for another would be pointless.

I think the Stock CAT is only a restriction if you go with larger downpipe, and after-cat exhaust.. Otherwise your going 3" downpipe, 2.5" (I think), back to 3"... If you keep your stock downpipe, or use a 2.5 downpipe, then the stock Catalytic converter can flow more than enough...

so in another words, only would need a hi-flow cat if you had 3" downpipe and 3" exhaust?.. Btw what companies have released a hi-flow 3" cat for the evo8??

I did some dyno testing with a completely stock exhaust and then added a 3" test pipe. It was good for about 10 WHP and the turbo spooled up a bit faster. Taking the stock muffler off was only good for 2-3 WHP. I know it's dirty and illeagal but 10 WHP for $50 or less, that's hard to beat. The stock Cat does look like a high flow, but even the best high flow cat is going to cost HP. The more mods you do, (increasing air flow) the more HP that cat restriction is going to cost you in HP.

I did some research and I am buying a 3" inlet by Cat Co. It cost 80 installed. It is a very high flow cat. The cat does not have to say it is for an evo 8. The only difference is if it isnt for an evo 8 it might not bolt on properly. But if you are doing custom exhaust a unviversal cat is the best way to go.

Alamo Autosports has both a 3 inch high flow car and 3 inch cat on both of their cars. They have a Blue which already has a bigger Front Mount and a Silver which has the 3 inch high flow cat and 3" from the Turbo back.

They should have their issues with dyno jet resolved and get their front rollers spinning to test 4wd this week and their dyno graphs posted.

Buschur racing list a 3" high flow cat on their site. I do not have one yet, so I can't say it's any better
