hey guys,how loud is it supposed to be at idle when warm? I am hearing a ticking sound that its fairly loud and have been thinking hopefully that it is mivec......with 950 miles I hope its just that

 

Depending on what car you owned previously, the Evo may sound a little louder at idle; but mine never sounded like ticking...

Make sure you check the oil level if you haven't already...

If still in doubt, try to have someone with some Evo experience take a listen to it...

 

i can hear the ticking sound when i pop the hood open.

I am used to valvetrain noise but it sounds wierd....I checked the oil looks good to me

It's the injectors. I was freaked out by the loud ticking when I brought my 9 home but I got out my trusty screwdriver and procceded to probe around the top of the motor. When I pressed the screwdriver on one of the injectors and put my ear to the handle - volia, there was the tick. I then checked all 4 injectors and each one made the same sound. There was no tick coming from the valve cover. Don't worry about it, the sound is normal. Our EVO 9's have noisy injectors.

 

factory injectors are 540 cc iirc, they're very big!

Yeah, I can hear a very very slight ticking at idle.. if I get out and walk to the front of the car... definitely injectors.

 

My 9 has had the ticking since new also...is it me or does the motor just make a lot of noise...I can hear the motor more than I do the exhaust.

 

Mine makes a lot of noise too.

 

I think I need a turboback exhaust......the damn engine when cold is more loud than the friggin LS2 in the GTO besides when the lifters are cold........
