Question Wire Mesh over Turbo Inlet

When I upgrade the Turbo (Gt35r), how bad is it to put just wire mesh over the turbo inlet? Instead of using the pipe and air filter. I've seen some people do this and I would think you get better airflow this way, but there is also the chance that you are sucking in hot engine air because the turbo is located right under the headers.

Thought/Opinions?

Not a very good idea!!! Dirt and other fine particles than can cause damage can still make it through there.

I would advise against this, even its a track only car. If you ever wind up off roading the car (sliding off track) you might suck in some small rock particles or sand...not good.
