Will Mitsubishi fix the transmission problem for the 2004 model year.
Hi,

I am not sure there was a transmission grind problem; certainly not widespread. Most grinding is attributed to a new transmission breaking in, not pushing the clutch in all the way in and trying to shift to fast.

Although there are few real transmission problems, I do not believe it is a large percentage at all; Mitsubishi is fixing them plus some owners are contributing to their transmission’s demise. Will Mitsubishi fix the transmission problem? How would anybody here have an answer to that question? And a Mitsubishi rep would not answer it, so your question is really rhetorical.

Mitsubshi management appears committed to ensuring that problems are corrected and one could assume engineering changes if required will be made to improve reliability; they have more riding the EVO than we do.

Mitsu is producing a 2004 model of the EVO 8? I thought they were just bringing over the EVO 8 as a 2003 model. And then posssibly bringing over the EVO 9 as a later model....

But maybe in 2004 Mitsubishi will fix the tranny problem because Mitsubishi knows that the EVO VIII has a problem with the tranny.

intimidator-

You keep referring to there being a tranny problem. Even when everyone says that they are not having any problems. Is there a reason you are persistent about this? If there is no widespread issue, then there is nothing Mitsu needs to do. Now if you are talking about Nissan and the 350Z, that is an entirely different story

People are saying that they are having trouble with the tranny and problems with metal shavings in the tranny.

There is a problem if you miss a shift you have replace some bad sincro.

But maybe in 2004 Mitsubishi will fix the tranny problem because Mitsubishi knows that the EVO VIII has a problem with the tranny.

I've missed a shift or two, my tranny has no problems whatsoever. No decel noise, no grinding, just perfect shifting and performance. Do you even own a Evo Intimidator? Just wondering how you're more of an expert on the tech board than the owners telling you there isn't a problem.

Don't get me wrong - I'd be all for bashing Mitsu if they were pedeling bad tranny's and not honoring warranties. But that doesn't seem to be the case.

But after the warranty and you missed a shift there goes the tranny then you have to spend your own money.

Kazoo's1st Evo8 said that dealer told him probabaly missed a 5th gear shift and wrecked the syncros.

There is a forum about the tranny problem with metal shavings in the tranny.

If you shift fast enough you will defeat the synchronizers and get that brief crunching noise. This will not do any real damage to the gears but will cause rapid wear of the syncros and eventually they will stop working. A more slippery gear oil will lesson the wear to the syncros but will make your shifts harder.
