you only have to pull the driver side shaft out its going to be harder now that its out and on the floor because its going to want to move everything around. it uses a 12 mm bolt very common on the car itself you can the dent puller or a slide hammer with a decent wieght to it and it will come out unless your one of those who twisted the internal shaft in the transfer case. in witch case if you did pull the passanger side internal shaft out and look inside the whole see if it looks like it has metal shavings or signs of it bein twisted. in witch cas you would get a long punch and put through the whole and beat it out with a hammer.

the shaft and the part of the TC it locks into may be parts that shep can get to rebuild your TC. i'd check with him if they're f*****. www.sheptrans.com

Ten to one says that there is a little bit of twisted splines, and/or alot of rust or corrosion fusing the shaft in the case (sat through the winter in Missouri??).

ok so if it can go in but not out its not rusted in there either try turning the shaft a few times and then try the dent puller again on both sides if the passanger side can come out look through the hole in the t/c and see if it is twisted if it is then get a long punch about half inch thick and a 2 1/2 hammer and hit the punch through the hole to get it to pop out and while you are doing so continue to turn it between each hit or (while using the slide hammer.

The slide hammer should do the trick, if you're using it right. If you decide to use a punch, make sure to find a brass round the proper diameter and use that for the punch, so that you don't mushroom the end of the shaft.

So I took it to the Mechanic and it took him 4 hours to remove it with a slide hammer, I guess apparently Mitsubishi damaged it when they removed my transmission to replace a syncro, it was bent right where the shaft enters so when i tried pulling back and forth it got wedged. Needless to say, I wasn't to happy with them and after a few minutes of arguing they gave in and ordered me a new one no charge, im putting it in tomorrow :-) Thanks for the help guys

**** those slidehammers. A 1 dollar hardware store U bracket with a hole drilled in it, and a M8x1.25 bolt to draw the shaft out with works the *****. I can't take the credit for it though, I learned it from a friend of mine who is a Mitsu tech.

Here you are, for all of you who plan to do a tranny pull for a clutch or something first find out what you will need and then make sure you know what you are doing.

And you tap a M8x1.25 stud into the piece that screws on the head of the slide hammer.
