Doc,
I run a built 2.3 with agressively tapered pistons and a 35R turbo. I drag race, road race, and drive it on the street several times per week.

What specific AMSOIL brand would you recommend for me? Thanks.

When it comes to modified engines, I try to look at a couple things.

With what you have told me, my biggest question would probably be if your built loose or tight ?

If you are running stock or tight tolerances in the rods, mains and cam bearings, and not a lot of wear, I would probably look at our Series 2000 0W-30 Product Code TSO.

Loose tolerance engine... our 20W-50 Racing Oil, Product Code TRO

We just came out with a 100% Synthetic 0W-20 . Just depends on your comfort zone and what your engine is like.

Thank you. I believe my tolerances are fairly loose - sure sounds loose at idle with all the clackity racket it makes . No balance shafts either. Balanced, machined, toleranced by Dan Benson of Benson Performance Machine with the knowledge that it would be a 600+ hp/550+tq motor. AMS spec ross pistons .020 over btw. My two main concerns compete against one another: 1) the insane piston speeds of my motor with the stroker at 8000rpms, and 2) frequent cold starts, although I live in a hot climate, so cold starts are rarely below 45-50 degrees, even in the middle of winter.

With more information, comes changes in thought. You are probably set fairly loose and may need the heavier weight oil... What are you running now ??

With you running a road track, it may be wise to run the TRO. Kind of take a look at NASCAR. Most run our 0W-30 for qualifying, light oil, less resistance, more HP. BUT, most switch to our TRO for the race or the oil would never hold up for the duration of the race.

Normally I run Mobil 1 10-30. Just changed to Mobil 1 15- 50. I know AMSOIL is a better product, but have never made the change for some reason.

Sounds like 20-50 for the Time Attacks and 0-20 for drag racing??

If you were running M-1 10-30 with no oil pressure problems, you can run our TSO 0W-30 with no problems and pick up a little HP..
