TRE or Shep trans??

well gentlemen i blew my tranny tonite..pounded 1st and 2nd felt fine, once i put in 3rd it went out and i then coasted it to the side.

the shifter has play in it..doesnt go into any gears,nothing..!!just up and down very loosely..

so my question is what tranny would you go with?TRE or shep?im gonna call both first thing in the morning, hoping there open on saturdays..

also with my mods on my signature and a built motor or 2.3L later what stg or tranny should i get?i saw TRE has stg3 race for $1400 and i saw that shep had rebuilds for $895..now i need something that will last with the power im putting down now and in future

ive heard both companys are great, but just asking for opinions and also the stg tranny or set up i should get..

thanks

was there any grinding, pop, or any other sign of mechanical damage? It might be the shifter cable came loose.

Do your research and decide but I would go with Shephard personnally. His reputation in this area is phenominal. I just sent my tranny and transfer to him yesterday. Depends oh how bad it is will determine whether it will get rebuilt or if you'll have to buy a complete new one. Good luck!

If you compare what actually gets done to your transmission by each of the companies you're thinking about, and the prices that are charged for the scope of the work, you'll find that TRE does quite a bit more than the others in its rebuilds/mods. The TRE "horror stories" have to do with getting ahold of Jon by telephone, NOT about the quality of his work, which is outstanding. Simply stated, if you want an excellent rebuild, he'll give it to you. If you want to call and talk all day, you'll be disappointed.

Theres been NUMEROUS complaints about lack of communication. Not getting ahold of them for 3+ weeks at a time. That is completely unacceptable anyway you look at it. Aside from the compaints Ive seen on here, my friend Mike also dealt with this first hand. He was telling me the run around stories, couldnt get ahold of him, waiting over 2 months for parts he promised and NEVER a call back, unless it was time to pay. Thats B.S. and Ive never send them anything.

+1. This happened to me ON TRACK a few weekends ago while road racing, and I thought I busted my brand new Shep 5spd. When I inspected the engine bay, I saw that BOTH shift cables had popped off the underhood bushings. The result was a very loose shifter that went back and forth with no resistance and with no effect on the gears, and I was stuck in the last gear I shifted to. I simply reattached the linkages to the bushings, and it all went back to normal. The only problem is they popped off during EVERY session after getting heated up, so I had Buschur send me his underhood bushings, which I'm now awaiting. For daily driving, it's been fine, but on track, it was a no-go.
