Me and my friends with evo all are firm believers that Pennzoil Synchomesh is the best, both 5 and 6 speed. And it's cheap too @$6.50/quart

I hear a lot of people saying they like Oem fluids more than redline...And people also say they like BG Syncroshift. I have searched and read other threads, I need to change the fluids in my car ASAP, and need to make a good decision...I am starting to get a 5th gear grind. Thanks
Just to let you know there are a lot of OEM

My Recipe included:

Motor: 5 quarts Redline Full Synthetic 10W30
Tranny: 3 quarts Redline Light Weight Shockproof
Rear Diff: 1 quart Redline Heavy Shockproof w/1.0 ounce of Redline LSD Additive
Transfer Case: 1 quart Redline Heavy Shockproof

The drivetrain feels really smooth and it eliminated a lot of decel noise and other misc drivetrain noise.

You hear of Redline horror stories because people use the wrong fluids in the wrong places. I've used Redline since the day I got my car with no problems. I had my transfer case replaced at 32k but not because of fluid issues.

AMS and Shep recommended Redline to me so that's what I use

I've been using penzoil sychromesh for the last year. This season I tried a mixture of redline MTL and MT90. I had a lapping day last weekend and after 15 minutes of abuse I noticed the redline wasn't doing its job. I was getting a grind going into 4th gear. I drained that ricey crap out as soon as I got home. Never had that problem with penzoil sychromesh.

As for the transfer case I've never had a problem using the Diaqueen LSD oil. Not sure why you would change it if it works and isn't all that expensive.

You were using a mixture of MTL & MT-90 which is for daily driving not race applications and "redline isn't doing it's job" wow..... You should have been using Light Weight Shockproof.

I am going to repeat my self again, you hear of Redline horror stories because people use the wrong fluids in the wrong places like the guy above ^

OOOOoooohhhhh so now there is a daily driver tranny fluid and a lapping day tranny fluid. I didn't know that. Honestly I think OEM fluids are the hot ticket.

I'm simply testing different fluids because I'll be pulling the tranny and sending it in to Shep for an upgrade next month.

I had the redline stuff in my possession so I thought I would give it a try. IT SUCKS. I figure I might as well put the word out for the rest of the HPDE guys.

Here is a thread that I read prior to giving it a try:
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=262967

I wish the OEM tranny fluid wasn't soo expensive. I change my fluids after every lapping day so it gets expensive.

As for running shockproof in the tranny....... Not me.

Is this what I'm looking for?

I want to swap out my trans fluid on my IX MR (6sp)

http://www.midwayautosupply.com/show...iliateid=10050

I ask only because it shows suitable operation with GM and Chrysler Transmissions

You can use that if all your doing is daily driving but you need to change that ~ every other oil change. Don't use that @ the track use Red Line LightWeight ShockProof if you are tracking your car.

I'm doing AutoX and spirited driving. This is rated a much higher weight than stock, this won't harm the transmission?

Interesting.

Kodiak, do you have a 6 speed or a 5 speed?

Does anyone use this stuff with the 6-speed?

Well I'm not going to argue with you about oil because I'm already back on Penzoil sychromesh. After the rebuild I'll run only OEM stuff.

For the record the DSM community has been mixing MTL and 90 for years. Then again they also run shockproof heavy in the xfer case and I would never do that in an EVO.

I think I'll just stick with OEM.

It might be expensive but at least I know it'll do the job.

just some further clarification guys..

in the ix 5 speed it is recommended to use the mt-90 straight and not mixed with the mtl.. i live in ny and we get cold winters. although ill probably put an easy 15k on the car before the weather gets cold though..

so considering im going to be in warm/hot weather the next 15k miles should i use straight mt-90?

and what would be the frequency of changing the tranny fluid when using the redline compared to oem.. oem only comes in a 5 gallon pale and its over 300 bucks.

also, with using anything besides oem void the warranty on the tranny?
