Drivetrain Interchangability

I think we need a thread discussing the interchangability of drivetrain components year to year in the Evo. For instance, an 05 tcase will not work in an 03 but will an 03 tcase work in an 05?

Please list from your experience, known combinations:

Year and edition of car to receive the part:

Component:

Year and edition of component:

Parts needed to swap:

I hear that 04 and 05 tcases and trannies are interchangable with the exception of MR components. Is this true?

this thread is quite simple...
they're are 2 kind of transfer case in EVO VII-IX.

- Mechanical LSD transfer case.
- ACD Transfercase /w hydraulic system.

Mechanical LSD transfer case is the best, It doesn't need a regular maintainance. ACD system is complicated. Its heavily dependent on ACD-ECU, Aniti-lock brake system and ACD motor.
All system are compatible except the MR have the add-on components.

So then if I wanted to upgrade an 03 to an 05 ACD setup what would I need?

What about the rear? Can I use an 04 rear in an 06 MR?

What about gearsets? Can I put an 05 gearset in an 03 case?

What about a MR 6 speed trans with an 03 tcase and rear?

I think you are oversimplifying your discussion.

upgrading an 03 VIII transfercase to 05 MR ACD transfer case is a pain.
you have to sort you way to settingup the ACD-ECU and wiring harness, plus the ACD motor. I dont kno if its worth doing it. But the way I see it, Evo MR sees a lot of action on car wreakage. What I believe this contributes to having ACD only in america. it should be with SAYC, I dont know why the didnt add it. cost?.. there azz.

Rear diffs on all VII-IX are all the same-same even the RS. gearsets on the transfer case are the same except the other half of it, the pass-side of the trans is a different casing were the ACD and mech, LSD are diff.

Yes, you can use a regular VII-IX transfer case om 6 speed trans...
