2000 miles on 06 IX and noisey engine -- rod knock?

I recently purchased an 06 IX with 4 miles on it when I took it. I have babied it this far and not done a single mod. It has only seen even close to redline once. However, it seems like the engine is a bit loud to me. Not from the exhaust, but underhood.

I have read about loud lifters on the 4G63, but i am not sure if its lifters. It doesnt sound like a lifter tick (that I have heard on DSMs), closer to a rod knock. I hate to think that it might be a rod knock, but I guess the possibility isnt out. My question is, is MIVEC sort of loud, or makes the top end a bit louder? Is it possible I am hearing some top end noise and mistaking it for some bottom end trouble? it is not a loud noise until after about 3k- 3500 rpms. Oh, and yes I broke it in properly and the oil has been at full since I took possesion.

I have had lots of turbo cars modded and stock... the only other time I have heard a noise like this is a rod knock in one of them, only not as loud. I am hoping i am not jumping the gun.

Take it to the dealer if you are worried about it. No need for you to figure out the problem if its a new car with no mods.

Could it be the the stock holla cam? It's known to make a bit of noise.

A video clip would be helpful.

Plus, have you changed your oil since the break-in period ?
And have you at least checked the oil level ?

Yeah it definitely could be. Is the hollow cam new for 06?

I think the best way I can describe the noise maybe (I thought about it driving around today)... It sounds like an NA car with an intake. But maybe a little knocky?

Sounds good about the video.

Hopefully it's nothing serious.
For the most part, Evos are pretty solid cars.

ok, after a day I got the video on my computer finally. Its just me doing a couple pulls on the freeway and stuff. You can see that it sounds strange at part throttle under load. Or maybe its not that strange?

Sounds very very similar like mine. I was worried abit at first, I datalogged the car, checked the oil and didn't seem anything weird, in fact, the car runs very strong and solid, so I didn't pay too much attention to it. It's my second evo ix.

It sounds like a relay or solenoid switching on and off.

I don't know, its still hard to hear over the video. But it sounds pretty much like my ix. I vote its nothing to worry about. They are indeed loud cars.

A friend of mine is experiencing a ticking sound also and it is more than just the lifters. he took it to mitsubishi and they cant figure it out so they are giving him a new engine. I drove the car today and it felt fine until we stopped where there was no noise then I started slow from a stop and the ticking sounded pretty damn annoying! I kept telling him it was the lifters but now I agree that it is something else.
