Ticking Noise coming from engine

I have this noticably loud ticking noise coming from the engine. I hear the noise best when I am in 3rd or 4th lightly cruising. When I give about 25-50% throttle I hear this ticking noise as the boost builds from just below 0 just just above zero, then can't be heard. Then when I let off the gas, it ticks again while the boost drops? I thought this was normal, but it's gotten a little louder over a short time.

I believe it might be the lifters? But can someone explain the exact job the lifters do and why this would go bad after 38k miles? What do you think?

It could be lifters, however it could also be your injectors. Have you done anything with your injectors? Even the stock injectors are known to have a slight "tick" to them. The exact job of the lifter is to follow the lobe of the camshaft to open/close your valves.

No i have not done anything with my injectors? I know the evos have loud injectors that tick, but i don't believe this is them. Thanks for input.

I just don't know why these would start to act up like this at low mileage.

Like the boost solenoid? I also thought of that, but the noise has gotten louder over the past few months.
