Unhappy 5th gear "grinds"

since i bought the car, (used evo 8), all gears are fine, except switchin to 5th at high rpm it will make a scrape/grind noice...

so i read other post found that you can adjuste the clutch pedal so it disengages better, and actually there was alot there to adjust, i tried it all the way at the top, and the 5th gear still grinds at high rpm ...i dont get it, should i bring it back to dealer?

Change your fluids if that doesnt work get a rebuild.. the more you grind it the more metal in your oil and the faster your TC goes learn from me I just spent over 4k getting both rebuilt.

i'm having the same issue. I'm taking mine to the dealer this week. it seems to be a common problem. try changing the tranny an tc fluid. if you drive it hard it should be changed at least every 5000 miles.

i would change the tranny fluid out. if that doesnt work then get a urethane front motor mount. the difference a urethane mm can make for shifting is night and day over a broken in mushy mm. if either of these fix your problem i would think about a rebuild

There is a Mitsubishi Service Bulletin about the 03's 5th gear grind....its covered under warranty. I just got mine replaced along with every other synchro in the trans under warranty here in Columbus OH by Roby Mitsubishi!

I know that the TC and tranny have different fluids, and compartments. So how does the metal in the tranny affect the TC. Just curious cause I've had the 5th gear grind at high rpm's for over a year now, and already replaced mt TC once, although it's "bulletproof", I don't want to test it.
