5th gear "grinds"
I just had my tranny done under warrenty for 5th gear grind.
I bought the car used out of state. Went to the local dealership and was upfront about the aftermarket clutch and the service writer said he would take care of it.
It took about 3 weeks to get it done, but I had to get proof that the 30k service was done from the previous owner. Once I had that, I got the car back 3 days later and it shifts so nice now

I bought it from a private seller.
The claims manager wanted to see that the car was properly taken care of, fluids, belt etc.
Had I not been able to talk to the past owner about it, Mitsu would not have covered it under warrenty. My car had 59k miles on it when I brought it in, the manager new I bought it used and was probably trying to play the odds that I could not produce a reciept stating the work done.
Some shops who do work also report it to some database where it can be found. For example, there is Midus up the street from me, they are a certified repair facilty and when I had some work done to my truck/oil changed it gets reported.
I had run a carfax on it and all the service work is on that report.

its a very common problem and most eovs do have that problem. there is even a TSp out for the problem
just make sure you can is stock and take it in to get it warranteed. if its an 03 you should have the 5 year.60 power train warrantee.
