High Oil Temp Causes Questions

I just recently installed a Oil Temp and Oil Pressure gauge.

On the street (normal driving, air temp 60 to 70 degrees), I am seeing oil temps of between about 185 to 210 degrees

Took it to the track this weekend for the two day Redline Time Attack (air temp was about 95 degrees) and was seeing almost 300 degrees.

I know this is hotter than it should be so I am trying to narrow down the cause. Although stock water temp gauge showed less than half way, I did notice the car felt low on power down the straights (picked up a little when I switched to 100 octane).

The oil on my first track day was fresh Mobil 10w-30 and for the second track day, I switched to Castrol Syntec 10w-50 (a little lower oil temps but still over 280 degrees). The sensor is located in the oil filter housing.

My mods are 1) TBE, 2) ECU flash and ARC Intake box. No MBC (stock boost) and gauges are VDO.

Could the high temps be caused by a lean condition?

Or, could it be an issue with Oil not going through the cooler (I have heard there is a check valve but would guess it would fail in the open position)?

Car seemed to run fine on the 3 hour drive home from the track...any possible damage to engine?

I have another track event scheduled for the end of the month and want to try to get this fixed so any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

I just recently installed my megan racing downpipe. I have noticed that my oil temps are now a bit higher than they used to be and it does not take as long as it used to for the oil to get hot.

My guess is that our aftermarket downpipes without heat shields are so close to the oil pan that it is significantly heating up the oil pan causing the temperature to be higher. I am going to try some heat wrap soon and see what that does.

Just my .02. Did you solve or figure out the problem yet?
