Will be looking at that when I get home, as I have stock box with Works drop in and modified lid as well.

Seems like it has more surface area than a flat filter, so it should be able to move more air easier.

I'll take a look at. Might be something worth doing, especially if you noticed a difference. But I just dont like the sound of the filter getting wet/moist spots...

I removed the box completely. Not sure why you would want to keep it.

BTW the DSM has a different MAF just the same bolt pattern.

To look stock and act as a drop in filter as opposed to an open element. Just looking at it do you think it migh fit into the air box?

The evo's stock air box system has a flat panel filter, the dodge srt-4 intake box used a cone filter inside. If you want to maximize air flow you also have to increase the surface area of the filter. A cone filter could have more surface area than a flat panel filter IMO (in most cases).

No it will not fit. I've tried that and a hacked box. With the stock induction hose the filter rests too close to the ACD res to use the stock airbox, even hacked up.

The Apexi cone filter however might fit as its much smaller both length wise and width wise.

Well I took a look inside the air box and I dont think anything cone/mushroom style free flowing filter will be able to fit in there. And if something is small enough, the surface area would probably not be large enough to move a lot of air efficiently.

the moisture wasn't all that significant

The filter element only felt slightly moist in some spots, and that was after driving with some good hard rev's through rain that was coming down in buckets. Most of the time, rain doesn't come down like that here (Oregon). Personally, the moisture getting into the box doesn't bother me. I am mainly wondering if my weatherstripping blockage is only a feature of some Evo IX's, and whether removing the blockage has the same impact as putting in a better filter system. I just like the idea of fresh cold outside air ramming into the inlet, especially when the car is moving. Would appreciate knowing what others find out on this matter, so I know I'm not seeing things out of wishful thinking.

Stock airbox FTW. Anything that requires a larger intake snorkel pipe i.e 30r/35r should be the only reason to upgrade IMO; Or 30+psi.

Actually after you posting that picture, thats one small filter. Just from the pic it might look like it can squeez in there but I'll trust you guys who own it that it wont fit in the box.
