It was part of the shift linkage that was damaged. To be more specific, it was one of the posts the shift linkage bushings go into, I believe it was the one on top. It also didn't help that one of my bushings was being held on by a nail!

If you've changed out your underhood bushings I'd highly consider looking into this area as the culprit.

In case anyone was wondering what happened. Schaller Mitsubishi put the shift linkage in backwards when working on the transmission. I brough it to another dealer, they have corrected it.

I would have to agree with TTP, on it being your synchro spring. My second gear is doing this exact thing right now, I can get it to go into 2nd about 1 out of 100 trys. But if you do find something different please post it so that it could help the next person.

I guess ill take it to the dealership and let them check it out again. This is the 3rd time the car is going in for this stupid transmission. It was already rebuilt.

Bleed the system

Bleed the clutch line. Do a search on me and see my other post. Clutch is not fully disengaging.

I've had this problem with almost every car I've owned. It happens. I dont think ne thing is wrong. I know that some cars have a type of safety thing, where you have to go into first gear before you can get in reverse. I think its just point your at in the tranny that just need to go somewhere else first to align right. maybe i'm wrong though, I just know that is how some other vehicles are.
