Strange Gear Problem

I am having a problem with my car going into first. I tried searching and couldnt find anything else that sounded just like this.

It seems that sometimes my car does not want to go into first. Now this happens when the car is off, on, you name it. It feels almost as if there is something from blocking the shifter from going into first. I pretty much just let the shifter go back to neutral and try it again and it will go in.

I have a stock clutch, etc...

Has anyone ever experienced this problem. I've read about lockout and i found out its not the problem im having but a lockout definitely describes what it feels like. It feels like im locked out of 1st gear, however brining the shifter back to neutral then back into first will let it go in.

It does not grind or anything, it just wont go in.

Thanks for the help,

Hans

Maybe the clutch doesnt disengage the first time..who knows..I've only had that problem a few times going into reverse. But it never bothered me. I just got my clutch done yesterday and it seems to go into gear pretty smoothly.

I was thinking about doing that but would it really cause the gear to feel as if there is something blocking it from going in. Fell like if i push to hard something will snap.

03 Evo with 42k miles

Go to reverse before you go to first. Of course only do this when you are stopped and in nuetral first.

I do not think it has anything to do with the clutch, because even with the clutch still depressed after not being able to go into first, i slip it back into 2nd then it will go into first easily. Maybe a linkage problem?

i had a simular problem with my second gear and found that it was a syncronizer ring was the issue i had to take it apart and replace the syncro the ring and the shifter collar due to the ring not allowing it to go into gear. eventually it will just stop going into gear thats how it starts.

That sounds like something thats worth warrantying. So my first gear ynschro, ring and the shifter collar would have to be replaced?

I personally havent changed it since i got the car ~6k miles. But I brought it to DRAGIN at the dealer here in CT to have my tranny worked on a few months ago and they refilled everything.

i really think this is normal. It's the same with my ix and my friends 350z. It's common for manual cars to do that, i wouldn't really call it a problem. Is this when you first start up the car in the morning? if so then normal.

I always put it in second before going into first, made it a habit. Goes in more smoothly

Yea i've started doing that since this started happening. If it gets worse I will bring it back to the dealer and let them take care of it. Guess the car gotta stay stock until then.

When the car is moving it going to be harder to get into 1st but if this is happening when the car is not moving then you have a different issue. Sounds like there is something wrong with your shift fork/linkage (possibly bent). Same thing happen to a friend of mine would go into 1st sometimes with no problems and would lock out other times. It turns out his shift fork was broken! Check that ...
