Thumbs up Ultimate Racing - 12.1 @ 110mph

Hey guys,

We just got back from the St Thomas Dragway yesterday and are very pleased with our 1/4 mile times. Best times we got were:

12.172 @ 110.23 mph

12.205 @ 112.79 mph

I will have videos up this weekend!

Current modifications:

Ultimate Racing 3" Turbo-Back Exhaust
Ultimate Racing HKS SSQV Blow-Off Valve
Ultimate Racing Ported Stock Manifold/Turbo/O2 Housing
K&N Drop-In Panel Filter
Greddy E-Manage
Greddy E-O1 @ 21psi
Ultimate Racing 785cc Fuel Injector Kit
Walbro 255lph Intank Fuel Pump
Ultimate Racing / ACT Clutch (Prototype Only)

Stock Camshafts
No Nitrous
Stock Tires

The Evo just wasn't hooking as good as we'd wanted. Still searching for that elusive 1.6 60 ft. I guess it may be time for some new tires.

We've made it to the track several times after our initial 12.57 run a while back, but the clutch was just slipping way too much for us to accomplish anything. We tried several prototype clutches that just couldn't hack it. Pretty much wasted days and wasted rubber.

Over the past while, we've been working with Dirk Starksen of Advanced Clutch Technology (ACT) and we believe we may have found a winner in a combination clutch package which utilizes their clutch disc material. What we were looking for was a full-face, sprung-hub clutch disc that was far superior to the stock disc. ACT was able to help us with that one. We're just not fans of using puck style discs on AWD vehicles as we've found in the past that they've been known to cause havoc on the drivetrain while launching. I'm sure they're good for rally, or road race, but definitely not drag!

I'm confident that 11's are possible with the stock camshafts and without the need for nitrous. Our ported pieces worked out VERY well! From our initial Stage 1 Plus setup, and the ported pieces, the car definitely felt stronger, and demanded much more fuel. Our stock injectors reached over 95% duty cycle, and the stock fuel pump began to struggle keeping fuel pressures up.

We've upgraded to our own 75lb (785cc) fuel injectors as well as a Walbro fuel pump. Our injectors are flow-matched per individual cylinder. One thing we found when we flowed the stock injectors was that they were about 5% apart! We've attached 4 EGT gauges to our Evo and have since been testing various flow combinations to find the perfect match for perfect EGT's in each individual cylinders. This is something that we've always done for ALL of our prototype cars (WRX, S2000, etc).

All in all, we're happy with the times. Of course, nothing would please us more than to hit that 11 second mark! We'll be hitting the track again in the near future, and I'm confident we'll break 11's, however, it takes a lot of time and effort to schedule a track day off work! I'm sure that someone on this board will beat us to it!

Again...videos will be up soon.

Thanks guys

Darryl

hmmm, other than ported parts, there are no other reasons for the larger injectors and in tank pump right?

Darryl,

Congrats on your new time. It's good to see you running low 12s with stock cams, stock intercooler and no nitrous. You mentioned the ACT cluth disk, but are you also using their pressure plate, if so how many pounds is the pressure plate?

Thanks
Doug

Thanks guys!

We didn't test injector duty until we had the ported parts on. But when we saw over 95% duty with fuel pressure dropping...we knew it was time to change!

The actual disc was from ACT. The pressure plate is something that we ourselves are tinkering with. Clamping force is about 2600 lbs I believe (Don't quote me on that though).

Darryl,

Were those passes on race gas or pump gas?

That's nuts! 12.1 is very impressive. Now time for some hks cams...time for someone to hit 11's!

I'm guessing that it was run on race gas.

Yes, this was accomplished using race gas.

Thanks
