Just ordered my 42r need some input!

I had Extreme Turbo Systems put in a order for my 42r from Precision well i said i want big but didn't realize when i said big they ordered me this turbo http://www.precisionturbo.net/mid-fr...bochargers.php
150-4240 GT427602R rated for 1200hp lol JR did say are you sure? Of course i didn't know what i was talking about
ETS is putting the whole kit together and what im worried about is if this turbo is going to need more than a 75 shot of nitrous to get it going?
If anyone has experience with the 42r any help would be awesome
I know that there are alot of different 42r turbos sizes you can get and i just don't know which one the big boys are running.

Looks like you have worked with AMS before and I'm sure if you call them they would help you out.....there is also Buschur...they are nice guys as well and you know they are both fast.

Good luck

I agree that I would work through a shop that has already run one of these. To my knowledge, nobody has run a 76mm compressor wheel on a 4G63 yet so it may not spool good without a good amount of spray. There are also a bunch of different exhaust housing choices for the turbo which are going to effect things a bunch.

You also may need to start looking at a dogbox to be able to shift at the kind of RPM you will now need.

yeah his work is amazing! also worth noting that his green car is a coupe! yeah thats right he has hacked the car in half and shortened it!

back to topic, with osme spray you will be fine! you might want to look into anti-lag and tying that into a launch control system to really get the turbo spooled on the line!

Thanks Chris.

PS. there is another company over here running a T88! so yeah people HAVE run bigger than 76mm's on an Evo! see the very top car here:

http://www.lancerregister.com/mlr_mo....php?&sel1=124

also a sweedish company put one on a Coswroth 2.0ltr unit. think that was spooling about 6K.

Have you thought about running straight meth? That will help with the spool time.

This is they type of thing that should worry you... You aren't a professional Evo shop, that has the resources to test such things.

You need to find out what exact 42r AMS and ND runs, and go from there.

That will be pushing the limits on the street for sure. Just like everyone is saying, you have to do your research before making a jump that big, your going to have some cash just to get the thing bolted on, you don't want to go through all that, and find out its not for you, or your setup isn't built aroung the rpm's that you will be spinning. I ruined allot of heads before I found a good port to work on a turbo like that, and still make usable power, and have a decent powerband. What im saying is you just can't stick a turbo on that you have no idea what it is and hope it works, it takes allot of R&D and money to find these things out. I hope this turbo company that your buying from did there homework.

Alright got some good feedback from AMSThey were very helpful over the phone and always very open about what setup they have.
They said they are running the big 76 - 42r which is the one i got on order.Plus they use no nos to spool just a 2 stepI think im going to use a 75shot to get this badboy going.

I do not drive my car on the street anymore except for local runs. I have a Cummings diesel truck that weighs over 8000lbs that runs 14 sec which is plenty fun for me on the street The torque feels awesome

I would be interested to see how a 70mm 42R (GT4294R) would do on a 2.0L Evo application. With so many people running a "37R" (which there really is no such thing as a 37R) which is a 67mm compressor T4 turbo I wouldnt think the 70mm version of the 42R would be that much more laggy. With as efficient as the 42R wheels are I would bet that the 70mm version would spool like a 37 (67mm) with a properly setup turbo manifold but make at least another 100whp.

hell maybe I'll sell my brand new 37R and just get a 42R and try it out. Anyone want a new 37R?

Im on the same road as you but im not going to spray for a while. Im also building my 42R car its takeing so long because i ran into some personal problems so i had to stop spending money on the evo and take care of other things.

Im planing on playing around with the 2step, Im going to start at 10psi then add on from there. And still in the air where im setting the rpm's at im thinking around 6600rpm.

It all comes down to playing around with the settings once you car is tuned for everything else. Everything else is getting out the hole and getting the right suspension setting your gold.

Its when you setup to 45R is where you should start to worry about spraying off the line. I talk to david about this about a year ago. He made me change my mind from 45R to 42R.
