Blow off valves, any recomendations?
Im looking for a blow off valve for my US Lancer Evo 8. I was considering the HKS Super Sequential Blow off. Noise is not an issue to me, infact I want one that not only sounds cool but performs. Is this a nice blow off valve? Sorry I am new to turbo cars
You really don't need one yet, upgrade all you rIC piping after you get an intake and full exhaust and run about 20PSI. Then you can get one. But the problem is that they need MASSIVE vaccum to open, but they do hold boost, so when you let off the throttle, they just flutter and you get boost surged back into your turbo, not good.
If you really need a BOV that'll hold 25+ Psi, get a Crushed 1G bov from buschur. It holds all the power the stock turbo can throw at it, and acts stock.

or run the forge diverter (recirculating) valve.... very efficient and no effects on drivabilty!..
with a drop in K&N it makes a small chirp and whoosh sound and with a cone type filter it makes a louder sound..
awesome choice for $150 bux shipped!

So your saying that it is bad to run a aftermarket blow off valve such as the HKS SSQ unless I have other mods? I have heard of a few people on here running them with no driveability issues at all? Is this really the general consensus?
i believe there is someone selling a recirculating kit (anything that's not recirculating will never work as well as the recirculating ones with the stock MAS) together with the HKS SSQ BOV... and supposedly this runs very well.. but i don't know what the cost is.. i know the HKS valve alone is over 200 without the kit..
the forge valve is a plug and play type upgrade (takes a few minutes to install) and it works awesome right out of the box!.. it's up to you.

Is the forge valve loud enough to hear when driving? I want people to hear it you know
I intend on getting a intake so I assume that to will make it noticeably louder?

I have a few basic questions about the BOV (I'm still a newbie to turbo cars)...
Will the valve prevent that jolting backlash you get for example when you spool up the turbo, and have to let off of the gas quickly?
Is it better for the turbo so it can continue to spool?
What's the take on emissions, voiding the warranty, etc? -- I hear that it tends to run the engine richer than normal.
Thanks!

the jerkiness is a pretty common problem with the vented to atmosphere type valves... the forge (and supposedly the recirculating kit together with the hks) works in the way the car was designed (in lamens terms), and hence causes no drivability issues..
I have the HKS SSQ BOV on my evo 8 and it's awesome. No problems. I am running a recirculating kit from AMS. With my K & N drop in air filter, it's makes a great sound. I like it loud and it's pretty loud for recirculating. With a recirculating kit, you'll have no problems with this BOV.
i just got my hks ss bo kitted on by AAM... it comes off a custom AAM upper intercooler pipe.... sounds great... but i do get a little bit of bogging sometimes when im on the throttle and i let off.. my rpm will drop under 1k for a second and then go back up almost as if its going to call... i have mine venting to atmosphere though.... im pretty sure if u recirculate it u shouldnt have any problems... except its summer time here i want my baby LOUD =)
