LC-1 Power On Help

Hey guys, I just picked up a lc-1, I have read that you shouldnt use the cig lighter for power, because of the grounds. Currently I have the 12v and the ground run out of a switch box with a off/on switch out the passenger window, under the hood and hooked to the battery. Obviously I want this mobile, to use on different cars. Im ok with the way I set it up using conduit, which covers the wires, But in a attempt to do away with 6 feet of wire for a cig lighter power port. I know this will work, but is there any draw backs to using the cig lighter

Thanks For Any Help,

Joe
