Perrin short shift drama's

Hey guys,

Previous owner installed a Perrin short shifter.
Whilst pretty notchy when cold, its beautiful when warm and has a nice and short, yet firm throw.
Issue is that 75% of the time regardless of the gearbox oil temp, its a pain to get into gears from a stationary position without really pushing it into the gate which i'm sure isn't normal.
Do these babies need lubing?

Also it creaks when in neutral and going across the gate to first and vice versa...perhaps its the plastic shifter surround...

Cheers.

I'd check the under hood shifter bushing first if it was me.. If the owner before you replaced them with brass bushings they could be starting to seize..
Had this hapen to me and I really had to muscle the shifter around...
Just a thought...

thats exactly how my Perrin is too. I replaced the underhood bushings with some aluminum ones and really made zero difference. If I could start over I'da left the stocker alone. Kind of a waste of 130 bucks or whatever it was.

Righto guys, thanks for that.

Lubed it up tonight and seems a little better, i'll monitor it for a week and swap it back to the stocker if i'm not getting anywhere.

Cheers.

I had that problem in my 05 evo and it was my pedal engagement that caused it. I now have an 06 with the perrin shifter and cant say anything bad about it.

adjust your clutch pedal out a little bit and see if that helps at all.

Sorry to hear your issues. ...but i think i have the answer for you. You said "Previous owner installed...." I bet that the previous owner did not trim the plastic cage correctly and the cable is rubbing. If you have a few minutes after work please visit our web site and download the instructions for this part under the description tab. You will have to get in the center consol to see if it has been trimmed. You should be able to tell by just popping the plastic trim plate on top of the consol. Don't lift to high...you don't want to tear out any of the wires for the ash tray and cig lighter. While you are in there you can make adjustments to your shifter too. Just use the Allen wrench supplied. It can slide under that trim plate and make the adjustments without having to completely remove the cover piece to get your hands in there. Here's a link

I'm 99% sure that is the issue. We have had our shifter out since 2003 and we only hear that compliant if a customer forgot to trim the plastic. If that is not the problem please give our techs a call and they can help you right over the phone. They are available form 8:00am to 5:00pm pst.

For those of you who don't know how cool our shifter is......here is a video of the adjustment itself...both height and knob position.
