Yes, but he has an EVO9. They make the power of EVO8s WITH cams. Their intake cam is more aggressive and the MIVEC also helps. An EVO8 with basic bolt-ons WITH cams usually makes the same power as a 9 MINUS the cams.

Sorry pal, I thought you were discrediting my advice. I am constantly trying to point people in the right direction of the mod path so they can go faster and spend less. When I said random people, I meant people with 5 posts that butt in and make senseless comments. I am however, a random person on the internet.

Not a biggie.

Now for my take on this.

Personally I don't know why you'd spend $1800 on a new turbo, then $400 + on a tune without getting all the supporting mods first.

The one and only dyno I saw of a guy running a 20g without the supporting mods was terrible. He made about as much hp as a guy with just the supporting stuff without the turbo, if not less. The big thing to remember with the 20g is it flows a lot more air, and needs to be able to move it. Our fmic isn't bad, but it was designed for the turbo that's currently on the car. It's flow will be terrible, and heat soak would be an issue.

The cams are very important, more so on the 8 than 9. The increased lift/duration allows more flow in and out of the cylinder. Very useful for a high flowing turbo. And lets face it, the 8 has some relatively cheap (but good) cams available that make some amazing hp. If properly tuned and not super aggressive they will idle fine. You don't make as much on the 9, but I still think it would be useful with a turbo upgrade.

That is my 2cents.

a 20g evo makes 360whp on 91oct pump gas a full bolt on stock turbo evo makes 36-370whp on racegas or alky so i dont see how a 20g would get smoked from stock turbo evo?
anyone else care to shime in?
you only got 13whp from your cams??? What cams and was it tuned? Have you already done a turbo back exhaust?

You have to realize cam gears dont magically give you power, it shifts the powerband in a way. Example. is you may gain 10whp up top, but lose spool or midrange. Youre basically taking it from somewhere else and putting it where you want it. I believe Vishnu reccomended setting cam gears on stock cams to that setting and it will make some more power but at what cost!
