Man My IX MR is fine, then again it is Stock

6th is a strange gear to bust, 4th is common. I prefer the speed for the street, I love the taller 6th gear and gets me the better gas mileage.

P.S.

I know it is bad for you to rest you foot on the clucth at a stoplight while keeping the car in gear, but why?

Resting your hand on the shifter causes stress as well? I figured as much.

Um, I doubt you could keep a car (running) in gear while stopped at a light with your foot resting on the clutch pedal. I assume you mean while having the pedal depressed or "holding" the car using your clutch's grab point. Either of those have no effect on your transmission other than degrading the life of your clutch when holding your car (Spinning flywheel, clutch rubbing on it as it's applied). When the clutch pedal is depressed fully it (the clutch surface) is disengaged from the fly wheel.
This will in no way affect your other transmission components. : )

So did you ever figure out what was wrong?
Also Carlos: did the dealership put in a new 6 speed tranny for your friend or did they just give him a 5 speed?
