272 eXh Cam on a EVO IX

So I favor the GSC 264 intake - 272 exhaust cam set-up like on the VIII's

And to the best of my knowledge the IX with VVT doesn't need an intake cam if you just only want 264!
(Plus I'm don't think its worth doing both Cam's on a IX as the power gains are not as good as on the 8's from cam's alone)

So I was wondering if anyone has tried replacing just the IX Exhaust cam with a GSC or HKS 272 Evo 8 eXh camshaft?

Since with a smallish turbo getting rid of the exhaust gasses more effectively would make the most difference I would assume that would be worth 10-15Hp???

What do you guys think?

Sal

Its not that the IX doesnt need an intake cam, its that the IX's head cant accept an VIII intake cam because of the Mivec.

Yes I agree with that but is the GSC Evo 8 272 Ex cam a straight bolt-on for a Evo 9?

Yes, it is. IMO its not worth just throwing on the exhaust cam. Just save your money and get the Cosworths. They have been making some decent power for the IX's.

I am using an HKS 272 ex cam on my IX. I believe the power gains were minimal.

Cool, ok I see that someone on the forum has run 11s with a similar setup to mine:

11.42 @ 118 1.6 60 ft AMS flash, 3" downpipe & testpipe, forge MBC, 272 GSC exhaust cam, drop in filter Evo 9

So I'm on the right track have made 300whp so far, was hoping to get to 370whp with the GSC 272 exh cam and a FP EVO Green Turbo upgrade with a few supporting mods.

(My oppinion on the Cosies was they were only worth 20HP on a tuned car) But if you guys say the Cosie Cams are worth the money then I will have to consider them...

yep that's my IX with the GSC exhaust cam. I don't have before and after dyno results, but i can tell you the car pulled much harder after installing the exhaust cam. I'm pretty happy with the results with little mods.

I have a 280 in mine, and went 11.7 at 119. I did my cam when no other "cams" were out at the time.

Since my 35r I am off next week to Buschurs for Cosworth cams and a tune.

I would say with the 280 alone the car felt stronger

hehehe the money is not a problem - its all the (PT) extra work and effort for maybe 15hp more...

Rather have 10HP less with much less work and no need for springs and retainers etc. Think I'm, not gona even notice or miss the 10hp-15hp I'm loosing out on when I have the FP Green but I will love the kick of the 272 for very little effort... (the fact that it comes cheap is a bonus)

Cool man congrats on the time!

I also belive that the EVO 9 can give big bang with clever changes so my theory is that I can spend half of what I normally would putting in Cossies or S1's + other fancy stuff and still make about the same power by making the essential mods only...

So actually the last 20-30HP gains are the most expensive... (I don't really need this last bit)

Want to put in a GSC 272 Evo 8 exhaust cam into my 9...

But am open to puting in the GSC S1's or Cosies if they are worth the extra work.

My feeling at the moment is that the GSC 272 Evo 8 exhaust cam only is worth for arguments sake 15HP for $300 installed and the Cosies are gona cost me maybe closer to $900 installed but only gain me 10HP extra...

So my argument is that 10HP is not really worth the extra work and fiddling on the head rather have 10HP less but a next to stock install.

But I concede that I have figured this out totally wrong and the best thing to do would be to just put in GSC S1's or Cosies....
