Battle of the Turbos - 50 Trim vs. GT35 - dyno comparision

This is a very interesting sheet

The car was a 03 Evo with typical Stage IV mods and a R n R 50 trim turbo kit - 880 injectors and a Dyno Flash custom tuned stock ecu with stock mass air flow sensor on 93 octane

After the weak pathetic results of the 50 trim kit - I suggested to the customer that he consider a GT35R or a GT37

Two weeks later and today we are dynoing the Gt37 on the otherwise identical car as two weeks ago with the 50 trim

I get a huge kick out of this kind of testing and I find the results very interesting

The car was transformed into a real great street car - if you stay in boost there is no lag between shifts - its great

Keep in mind this is a non ball bearing Gt37 - with the ball bearing it pob would pick up a few hundred rpms spool up

Al

What kind of boost was the car hitting with the 50 trim, and was it the same boost level or more w/ the GT37R? What kind of whp #s did you get with the 50 trim, like 270? Kinda hard to tell on that graph without the # listed.

thread says 50trim vs 35r and then u post results of a 37r? u say its an 03, graph says its a 04? these graphs are confusing. and if u ask me, arnt those numbers on the weaker side of a 37r?

Both sets of numbers look pretty pathetic if you ask me, most 50 trims are making more power than the GT37 graph you posted.

Whats with the boost falling off so much on the 50-trim? It holding 20+psi to redline would have helped. So is the second graph a GT35 or a T67?

It is a RNR garbage 4 into 1 header and a RNR 2.4 or 2.3 L bottom end with Stage 4 from misc companies

I am sure we could have reached 500 who with the pump gas - but I am a very conservative tuner by design and this car was set up with zero knock and a safe tune to last 20,000 miles with ease

The main thrust of the sheet is to see how the two turbos compare on the same car same mods - a rare opportunity

I agree - his car has issues - I felt his RNR supplied turbo sucked - as we only changed the turbo it seems my diagnosis was accurate

The title was an error as the second turno is a non ball breaing Gt37

I concur - you are correct - but the guy is dealing with garbage parts from RNR which really dont work well at all

You cant compare this to a Buschur or AMS turbo kit

I am mostly interested to examine the shape of the curves with the same mods and same car with just changing turbos

Holy LLLlllllllaaaaaaaaaggggggg ... and holy crappy 50 trim setup. The 50 trim should have been able to hold the same PSI as the 37 trim, which should've put it much closer to the WHP numbers of the bigger turbo, without the insane lag.

well in AL's defense, i think we can say **** RNR all together. they have screwed over so many inocent people on this site. but i also am wondering a few things, like y is "this car was set up with zero knock and a safe tune to last 20,000 miles with ease" . only 20,000 miles? wtf? and how can u comepare 18psi to 22 psi with two completly different turbos, if this was infact the case?
