My carnage in the photos is from my nephew dropping the clutch at 5,500K RPM.

yo. dont say stuff you guys know nothing about. In regards to the mechanic, I mean. He was a mitsubishi mechanic for a few years, and left to start his own shop. no need to call people names. Thanks for the input. I will be cracking open the tcase on my own next week or so, cause I do know how to work on cars. I'm no mechanic either, but I did most of the work on the evo so far, except the tune, which slostjoe did with our friend who used to drive a high 10 second evo a few years ago. I will post the results of what I found out. Maybe you guys will get to say "I told you so". Lets hope not, for my wallets sake. Sucks that I did a bad launch. It was my first time at the track with an all wheel drive car. I don't usually launch bad on the street. Plus the street is a little more forgiving than the sticky track. Thanks again.

i actually find the track is smoother for me.... the street is so rough that your tires dont spin as well and they tend to bounce.

I think also that everyone is going to agree that mechanics at mitsu are pretty terrible lol. I didnt mean to knock on your mechanic, or rather, degrade him, although i meant it i guess...... i just cant see how a diagnoses from you telling him you launched the car, the CV boots on boths sides popped means that one axle is broken and you dont have a problem in the T case. For your sake, i hope he is right.

And to further your confidence in mitsubishi employees, i had one do to me what yours did... what noise is it making ? loud whining ? oh, that has to be your throw out bearing.... buy a new clutch and we will replace the throw out bearing and clutch for $80 since we have to diagnose the noise anyway. If i'd a known better 3 years ago, id just bought the throw out bearing, but if they'd a known better, they'd a diagnosed my tcase instead of replacing the clutch, throw out bearing and rear diff first lol.

Also, my buddy's car, they were kind enough to leave a rag on his head when closing it up... so it ended up at the bottom of his block and messed up his bearings lol. Some dumb joe w/ kmart tools > mitsu mechanics

The clunking noise while turning could be the CV Joint itself, the other issues indicate possible differential/tcase trouble

Sad but my car launches better on the street too, I just hook where at the track it always spins to some degree, but TTS has it on this one. Good luck post some pics and never DUMP the clutch, i killed a WRX transmission with ONE launch like that.

Ok. so i took it to my dad. he had some spare time and pulled out the axles. the axles and cv joints are fine. He does not want to pull out the tcase, though. He said they looked inside it and everything looks fine, but that is only what he can see without removing it and opening it up. If it is the tcase, would it be something you could see without removing it from the car and opening it up? He said the gear oil and magnetic plug had no signs of metal shavings. Is the tcase breaking and the diff breaking the same thing?

Stop dicking around and pull out the TC. You are wasting time.

Its possible that you damaged the front differential only. The front differential is located inside the transfer case. When someone says your transfer case is damaged, they can be referring to either the ring and pinion gearset, or the front diff. You should hope and pray that your ring and pinion gears are fine, because they are very expensive (basically will cost you the price of a new transfercase). The front diff is easy to fix (anyone can install one, there is a howto on it in these forums) and it will probably be best to replace it with a better limited slip unit anyways (stronger and offers more front end traction around turns).

Your kinda a rude fellow. You have to pull those items to get to the damn thing, anyways, and its best to check the easy stuff first. Thanks for the input, but this is an online Community. Be helpful, not a jerk. If you have some spare time and money, go down to Arkansas, pull it out, and fix it for me. Otherwise, learn how to post respectfully.

Wow ! TTP was so mean to you ! This is like expecting your doctor to tell you what's wrong with you over the phone . The "community" can help you , but you have to give us some info to actually work with . "my car made a noise and doesn't drive right after I was beating the crap out of it " really doesn't give anyone enough info to help you . If you are a mechanic , then be a mechanic and properly troubleshoot the problem and fix it . If your buddy's dad's friend said it's probably the ball joints because it happened to his sister's cavalier once them maybe you can go that route . I'm surprised Warrtalon isn't on this like a hungry wolf standing next to a freshly road-killed deer . If you can't properly diagnose what is wrong with your car , there is no shame in that .Take the car to a reputable mechanic and have him (or her ) figure it out and fix it .
You asked for " an educated guess " , you really can't or shouldn't expect much more than that . Just my over the phone observation .

The car has been diagnosed.

Continuing to post when he has been advised to pull the transfercase 10 times in 3 pages is a waste of bandwidth.

Its like posting a thread "I am going to the dyno tommorrow and will post up dynosheets.

Then posting, "I am still thinking about dynoing my car".

Then posting, "Haven't been able to go to the dyno but, still plan on going."

Then posting "Work hours are kind of tough, I want to go dyno the car"

Then posting "Well I started driving toward the dyno then I realized I had a Doctors appointment and couldn't go.

Then posting " After the Doctor's appointment I really was short on cash but I still want to dyno the car."

Dude, just stop posting until you actually go to the frickin dyno already.

Pull your transfercase.
