Vacuum Line Access for BOV
My BOV is not blowing off and I am looking for another place to hook up my vacuum line. I had my Tial BOV vacuum line coming off a T that went to the boost controller also. I have been told by AMS that this is the wrong answer. They suggested that I give the BOV a dedicated vacuum line. Where is a good place on the intake manifold for me to hook my vacuum line into?
I think I understand what you are trying to say. You can have the BOV and boost controller on that same line. Some people just prefer it differently.
The way AMS is refering to is that the vaccum line that you have connected to your boost controller is suppose to be used for your BOV (Like the stock BOV is hooked up) The boost controller is suppose to go between the wastegate and the little nipple on your turbo outlet (the black piece that connects the turbo to the lower intercooler pipe)
I prefer having the line coming off of the manifold go into a "T" fitting and running both the boost controller and BOV off of that line. It makes more sense to me to take a measurement of pressure from the manifold than at the turbo before the intercooler and piping. As long as you are sure your BOV isn't leaking.

In my small brain, a vacuum line is a vacuum line and T'ing off of the same vacuum line coming out of the intake manifold to run to the boost controller and to the BOV should work fine. However, AMS is telling me I need to have a dedicated vacuum source for the BOV. I need a dedicated vacuum source coming out of the intake manifold so I can hook into it there and see if it works or not. And for you supergeniuses, explain to me why T'ing off would cause this not to work for me?
The BOV is hooked up. It is T'ed off the same vacuum line that runs to the boost controller. AMS is telling me that it being T'ed instead of having it's own dedicated vacuum line from the manifold is what's causing it not to blow off.
Boost controllers work in different ways to control the actuator arm, but most bleed off a small amount of boost pressure at some point in there system to do this. This bleeding of air can some times affect how a BOV operates. On MBC there normally is a small pin hole after the check valve, normally OK to use a MBC and BOV on the same vacuum/boost line. Some EBC bleed of a lot more air causing the BOV to possibly operate incorrectly.
I always hook my boost controller to a boost only source like the ICP and the BOV to a dedicated source. I am also running a tial BOV and it is much larger internal area than most BOV may be causeing your problem. Now i know someone on here is gonna say that they have tial that is T ed with the boost controller and works great, but they possibly don't have the boost controller.

yeah you need to listen to AMS, most people that own or work in shops like AMS 99% of the time are correct. most people like them have either grown up around racing or are very educated in the engineering arts of the automobile.
me im 3rd generation in my family of racing... and yes im from good ole North Carolina where we live for racing. and im educated in mechanical engineering.

im not sure how the US evo intake plenums work, but when i removed my antilag on my JDM one you can use a dedicated line from one of those ports. or you can try the FPR vacuum line im running that on my Type-R bov and its working fine with a boost controller hooked up on the original BOV Line. another option you can try is tapping a nipple into ur Upper IC Pipe. just my five cents. I noticed using a line after the intercooler worked better for me.
wouldn't the vacuum source have to be behind the throttle plate for the BOV to work correctly (e.g. between the throttle and the engine head)? So I don't think the upper IC pipe would work, because it's in front of the throttle body. Just thinking out loud ...
