Don't listen to any of them.
The wastegate on an evo is internal. It is a flap that opens inside the turbine housing. Hence the o2 housing not being a piece of pipe. That little gold can on the outside of the turbo is the actuator. A spring loaded diaphragm that opens a butterfly valve that lets the excess gasses go.

Does this help????????

The word, "internal", is a misnomer. A more accurate word would be "integral" as it applies to the 16G's WG. The WG is not a flap inside the turbine housing either. The WG actuator does not open a butterfly valve. The WGA keeps the WG puck, aka flapper valve, shut.

after you find the acctuator if you cant tell that evo turbos are internal wastegates there might be something worng. so if someone discribes the actuator as a wastegate they are discribing part of the system.

Your talking apples and oranges Sparky.

Explain to me what you think the diference between a "butterfly" and a "flapper" valve is.

I have never heard the term "flapper" to describe a valve.

I install valves for a living.
