How to identify an EVO 9 turbo?

I'm planning on buying a used EVO 9 turbo and would like to know how to identify it has a 9 vs. 8. I know I've seen a thread before but I couldn't find it. Thanks.

TD05HR-16G6C-10.5T engraved on the turbo. and of course the obvious visual difference like the larger compressor cover.

that or if its Brand new like mine it doesnt say that.

The housing is bigger on intake, and the hotside will have a single flapper

The 2005 EVO8 hotside has a single flapper as well.

The 2005-2006 hotside is the same

The 2006 compressor housing (cold side) is different than the 2003,4 & 5 compressor housing.

If by late model 04s you mean 05 models made in 04 you are right. Otherwise, there are not any 04 models that came with the 10.5 HS stock.

To the OP, search for pics. The compressor housing is noticably larger.

also keep in mind that the early 10.5 were made as dual flappers as well.
