Oil light question
Oil light question
hey whats up guys, i just did an oil change on my car about 2 days ago...i used Mobile one fully synthetic 10W-30. i have done many oil changes on the evo and i never have had a problem. Well tonight i noticed at red light, that my oil light was on so i pulled over right away and checked my oil level. It was perfect so i pulled back out and noticed the light was gone then i hit another red light and it started like blinking and fading like it couldnt decide whether to be on our off. What i noiced is when i tapped the gas it would go off right away and also does not turn on when im driving. So on my drive home tonight sometmes it would blink and fade rapidly when i was a complete stop but at other stops it wouldnt turn on. It never comes on while im driving. Im pretty stumped any ideas? sorry if my grammer and spelling is bad im posting from my cellphone!
thanks in advance!
thanks in advance!
i would just double check everything. tighten up the drain plug and make sure the filter is seating correctly, even if the level is right. maybe the wiring from the sensor to the light is shorted somewhere? which is causing the light to show when at idle but makes it go away when the throttle is pushed? im somewhat stumped other than that.
yeah im going to tighten everything up tomorrow morning. I dont understand with a slight rev it shuts right off...or when driving it doesnt come on its the strangest thing! Thanks for the quick response "eehjay"
The oil light has nothing to do with how much oil you have. Sorry to break that common misconception
Your oil light comes on when you have low oil pressure. You can actually be 3 quarts low and not have the light come on because you have oil pressure, too bad the oil is near boiling and your motor is about to frag itself
... But the light won't be on haha.
This is also why when you rev the motor the light goes off. Your raising the oil pressure when you rev the motor.
Chances are you either
A. Didn't install the oil filter correctly (ie didn't fill it with oil before installing or didn't seat it correctly)
B. Have a minor obstruction in your oil lines.
C. Your oil pump is going.
D. Might have gotten some oil on the drive belt and its slipping a bit... or the belt is just going bad.

Oil Pressure is low.
Can not be a slipping belt without major problems. The belt has teeth and keeps the engine in time.
Could not be an issue with not priming the oil filter, as that would only affect the first couple of seconds after the oil change.
Could be a blockage in one of your oil passages.
Could be a failing pressure sensor.
Could be a failing oil pump.

Not filling oil filter is not a "couple of seconds" issue as it can trap an air bubble in the filter or in the oil lines.
