please help diagnose my engine problem

Thanks for checkin this out. Problem is at or near WOT my engine will pull as it should until about 4,000 rpm. When I hit 4,000 rpm the engine loses a lot of power and jumps up to ~5,500 rpm as if the clutch had been pushed in, then the rpm will drop back down to ~4,500 rpm and near normal power will return.

I had a problem similar to this a few months ago and a plug change fixed it. Before changing the plugs this time the rpm jump was much more severe, jumping from 4k to upwards of 6.5k before settling back down.

I have cleaned my injectors, my plug gap is at 0.28. My mods are full 3" exaust, vishnu exede, and exedy twin carbon clutch w/ about 30k miles on it and 64k on the whole car.

My hope is that there isn't a clutch problem. It is treated pretty gently. There is no lurching as is usually seen with clutch failure and the car pulls strong to 4k and strong after the rpm "spike".

This condition has happened at ~6.5k rpm however much more rarely.

Thanks for replys.

Sounds more clutch related but if you think its the engine then I would suggest reading your codes first.

Go put the car in 5th gear and when driving go to a low RPM, floor the gas pedal and then see what your RPMS do.

you have any boost leaks? try checking for issues in teh fmic piping line, unless its the clutch. i had a dime sized hole in my FMIC piping that caused similar issues - missing/stuttering, but it really sounds like clutch

i tested my car again during my work break... 1st and 2nd gear is ok. but from 3rd to 6th... once i floor the gas, the rpm drops @ 3.5-4.k rpm. right after the turbo starts spooling. please tell me its the weak stock clutch. i've never experienced a clutch giving out on any standard car i've owned. i was beating on it a bit this weekend.

yeah your clutch is slipping, you will not notice it yet in the lower gears but in the higher gears when there is more load on the clutch especially when the turbo is spooling is when the clutch will start to slip.
