EGT Temps...at idle and cruise?

I just installed a EGT temp gauge (prosport), and I was curious as to what the averabe idle temp, cruise temp (80 mph), and WOT temps should be about (approx)......thanks again for your input

for the EGT it will varies base sensor, it doesn't matter what it reads during crusing or idle. at WOT you want to be under 1655F or 900C. The location of the sensor will change the reading also. Most people tap the manifold on the first runner or second. I know Tanabe DP have a place for it right on the DP, which is worthless. it's way too far. It will give you a slow and lower reading. As for what it should read under WOT, well it's hard to say, cause it's base on your tune or how rich or lean or car run. Also if your ECU is pulling timing or your tuner give you low timing map and alsorunning lean, the EGT will also go up high. Come by our shop anytime and ask all the questions you need.

Idle fully warm between 350c and 500c, cruising at 80 mph between 800c and 840c, wot 875c to be safe, just below 900c for an aggresive tune. This is with the egt in runner #1 (cylinder closest to the timing belt). Downpipe readings should be way colder. If using a turbo timer it's a good idea to set it up by watching the egt and having it turn off the car when it drops below 500c. Times will differ depending on driving time, city vs. highway, and the amount your beating on it.

those readings look like turbo diesel temps. I have a conservative tune and idle about 800 and cruise 80 mph at 1350 and not much higher at WOT. I'm tapped into the 2nd runner with Defi gauge. Are you running rich?

1350 at cruise and as high as 1575 F at WOT. Does that seem high at WOT?

I see like 950 to 1100 at idle I think. WOT I see up to 1650! I'm right where the evomoto how-to told me to put the probe. 2nd runner 1-2 inches away from the head.

Me too. If you look at the pics on evomoto's site, I am actually much closer to the head so I assumed that is why my EGTs are a bit higher than some I've read. Chris from AMS tuned me though and my AFRs are dead-on when you look at my dyno plot. That and the fact AMS is the $h1t makes me think everything is as it should be.

I appreciate the input guys.... I have the probe in the #2 runner, and I am at 1000F at idle, and approx 1350F at cruise (75-80 mph). I am avoiding doing WOT for the time being, until I can get a tune. I feel much better now...thanks again!

exactly.

most fail to understand, is that you can safe tune and the egt would be high. Low timing = high EGT. Knock is also causes the EGT to go up due to timing pull which mean low timing.

Paid attention to this again last night as I finally got all my boost leaks fixed and got on it a bit. Around 80-85mph at cruise I am around 1400*F and at WOT I actually got it up to 1600*F in 4th gear. That is getting up there...

So if I dont have a turbo timer would it be safe to turn off my car when EGT go down to 1000 F. (provided I have a set up like yours, where the car iddles at 1000 F.)

I ask because I read an article which said rally drivers usually wait a few moments for EGT's to go down after running in order to not damage their engines and turbos. true?
