what all needs to be done to a stock evo 8 head for it to be safe to run 280's and rev to 8k.

is there a big difference from running 272/272 or 272/280?? power gain wise?

There's a big difference between 272's from one company and another. HKS vs. Tomei for example. Same goes for 280's. All 272's won't perform the same, and some need upgraded valve train. Same with the 280's.

Some 272's will outflow other 280's, so it's hard to draw comparisons like that.

just call the company and ask them what they recommend. probably will just be springs and retainers

So stock valves won't ever float and bang on pistons, head gasket won't blow, timing belt won't skip if he hits the 8k rev limiter.
