Need some input on bigger cams for our 42r setup

As some of you know we have a divided 42r and are running the BC 280 280 cams.
Just seeing if anyone has made more power with a different cam. Juns,GSC,HKS, etc...
Now from my understanding the divided housing and exhaust pulses work good with bigger cams.
ETS is switching my Exhaust housing to a much bigger one this week
I have a ported head with dual springs and +1 valves

i would say the jun 272's or the tomei 280's they are both very aggresive cams and proven to make real good power

go with JUN 272s!!!

while AMS was building chris' 42R powered evo from florida they made 826awhp on HKS 280s then moved to JUN 272s and made 903awhp!I forgot where i heard this..

JUN 272s without a doubt, ive see big gains on all set ups

i would say buschur's cams, tomei's, piper's, or kellford. Actually, I may be wrong here, but Kellford are supossed to be REALLY, REALLY narly cams. Perfect for your application, Paul

I'd say go with JUN 272s. Their 264s make more power than HKS272s, but slightly less power than 280s. I believe the HKS package is a little docile one, whereas JUN goes for allout power. AMS uses JUNs on their time attack Evo as well. From AMS website :
"At roughly 40-41psi on a GT42 we made about 55-60whp more with the JUN 272's over the HKS 280's. Idle quality is compromised with the Jun 272's so we will only recommend them for people running a stand-alone. You will not a have a fun time getting them to idle with a stock ECU, but they really wont' be a problem on a speed density based engine managment. "

Still I would definitely consult Ted B, he helped me out in deciding cams as well.

I gotta say +1 on the buschur cams. I can't believe how much power you're making on the BC's already. Everything I've seen about Buschur's BF cams make them the ones to get when running a large turbo IMHO.

The JUN 272s made like 50-60whp more than HKS 280s on an AMS 42R powered car near your power range. That is a nice solid gain. Also, Buschur's cams seem like a good choice too.

I would go with the Buschur cams or the JUN 272s for sure.

Buschur racing has their BR272's thats what they use in their drag car and they're supposed to be NASTY.... 30r or bigger, you happen to be bigger. haha. I know theres a thread on them somewhere, they don't give specs but Dave says if you want to do fast just take his word for it. They're Awesome.

The issue with the cams you are presently running (BC 280) are twofold:

- The LCs for both intake and exhaust are much too far advanced (106/106) for the rpm ranges where the GT42R makes power.

- The lift on the BC 280s is reported to be 10.8/10.4mm for int/exh respectively, which is fine for a stock head, but is not enough for a ported head. Do you have any flow data for your ported head?

What you need is a cam set that offers enough lift to maximize the flow potential of the ported head, enough duration to support high rpm power, and is timed to maximize power in the rpm ranges where the turbo runs most efficiently. So long as we get the first two parameters within range, the third is easy enough to manipulate with a set of cam gears.

As for off-the-shelf cam sets, the Tomei 280 looks like a good starting point on paper. The Buschur cam set is what that camp uses. Apparently it works well, although we don't have any information about the specs to discuss.

One person who has been doing quite a lot of grind-and-test work in this area with cars of similar capability is Greg at GSC. If I were in your present position, I would certainly give him a call and speak to him about his obvservations.
