what it was is the bearings in the front u joint on the drive shaft went bad. If i pushed on the driveshaft it would quite up alot. And while in gear the front u joint would deviate alot compared to the rear u joint.

Ok, my car makes a similar sound but it only happens when im coming down the rpm and u can really hear it around 1,500 rpm when Im slowing down in gear. With the car in neutral I car rev it up 2500rpm and as soon as I let go it would rattle but mine sounds like taking aluminum foil and crumbiling it in my hand. I keep thinking its a heat sheild or loose bolt. I cant figure it out. It did it when I had stock downpipe and O2 housing so it cant be that. Oh and it defenetly is coming from my exhaust manifold/ turbo. Anybody has any ideas. Im hoping that if you figure out what it is and I can check it out figure out what happen to mines. Hope you the best! If i figure it out I will let you know.

Hey everyone. It's been some time. The noise is still there!!!!!! I got a brand new clutch, flywheel, throw out bearing, pressure plate. The sound is still there.. I'm getting soooo angry. Made a some strange discoveries though.

Ok one.. When the car is in a standstill and I push the clutch in and rev, the noise gets LOUDER

Ok two.. When we disconnect the rear drive shaft, the noise stops or gets very very quiet. Does this make any sense to anyone?

2GR8 when you car was making this noise. Did it make it when the car was parked also as well? Because my car makes this noise wether I'm moving or not. So strange. I talked to John Shep, and he told me that if you push in the clutch and the noise goes away then it isn't drivetrain related.... aiya.. I'm about to sell the car out of fustration.

dude...i have this sound too.. but it is from my heat shield rattling with my test pipe..
I guess the stock cat (big) is holding the heat shield in its place, but with a test pipe, it became loose , and the o2 bung just knock on the heat shield..
So what I did was.................. jack up the car, and go rattle the heat shield a bit , if it moves, hammer that biatch closer to the car, I also use some double side 3m tape to buffer metal out.. there mite be a better solution but it solves my knock sounds..

Probably the clutch inspection cover then, there is thin sheet metal cover plate on the back of the bell housing near the starter. Either that or once of the bolts in that area.

I fixed my rattle with a hammer 4 beers and 2 whiskey 7's. So much happier. I think I may have just scared the rattle.

I just installed a new downpipe, and I have a rattle, it is the heatshield over the cat-converter, is this attached to the car or the exhaust I dont know, I havent jacked it up yet, but I can hold it down from the side and it stops. Just removing and replacing a downpipe should not mess with this shield, how does it bolt to the car?

Thanks

Its driving me nuts

I have a rattle sometimes (more often recently) when I am still and the clutch is not pressed, but then I press the clutch it goes aways?

EVO IX - what could this be?
I took it to mitsu once for the 5th gear syncro and they fixed the issue, but it came back.

Take a look at my other thread about similar annoying buzzing, rattling noises:

Is anyone else experiencing the same issue?

sorry to bring this back from the somewhat dead, but at a stand still i noticed this noise alot. when i rev it has this buzzing noise and as soon as a i push the clutch in it goes away. it sounds like a gear in the tranny is stalling out like when you spin the tires on a toy truck to fast. its annoying
