TOB / Wedge Collar

In the middle of removing the transmission, how do you tell if you have separated the TOB and wedge collar sucessfully? Currently the clutch fork arm springs automatically all the way to the passenger side.

When I push the fork arm toward the driver side it moves probably about 2-3 inches. so is the TOB free?

If I'm understanding you correctly (the bottom part of the fork is moving 2"-3" towards the driver's side fenderwell) then yes, it should be free. You can pop the rubber vent (on top) and access port (on the bottom) of the bell housing & peek in with a light to verify that the TOB is free as well.

yup the arm part where the slave cylinder pushes can move about 2-3 inches, looks like from one end of it's travel to the other, but springs back toward the passenger side.

Just seems wierd because that was how it was when I went to pry it, so I don't see how it's supposed to lock back in, i guess i'll find out once the transmission is out....

Once you disconnect the TOB from the wedge collar, if you push the clutch fork over, you will reengage the TOB.

The best way to tell is to just look. There should be almost a 1" space between the TOB and wedge color. Look in the bottom hole, while you have some one else shine a flashlight in the top hole. You can even wiggle the fork a bit just to see that it is not moving the wedge collar.

To be honest, if you have to ask, then you probably did not disengage it.

Be carefull not to damage the wedge collar. In case it gets damaged, like what happened to me, you will need to buy a new pressure plate from Mitsubishi dealer. It really sucks. Hope everything goes well.
