Sounds like he means stock boost will be kept, but maybe the boost will not drop as much toward redline.

I don't think there is any snake oil here, I'm going to glady hand over my 5 bills to Dave as soon as I get around to calling him

I don't want to push 1,000HP from my 2.0L I-4 daily driver, I've had too many daily drivers I tried to make into race cars and you get to a point to where the practicality and reliability suffer to the point that the car is no longer enjoyable. However if it were not my daily driver

Every chip I have looked at in the past for other cars was sold by the amount of boost they produced (ie a 1.3bar chip) It bothers me that works will not disclose any numbers on how their chip effects boost. This, along with comments made by other tuners with knowlege in this area, along with Davids ambiguous answers lead me to believe that the works chip does not adjust boost. Rather, it seems to only change timing and A/F mixture. While this will yeild signifigant results, I am still waiting for a chip that will also raise boost to around 20psi and hold it untill redline. The company that can do that is the company that will get my $500.

I feel like I am being clear when I respond, but I guess I am not. Peak boost remains unchanged from stock. However, by making the appropriate adjustments, not just in A/F and timing, but also raising the rev limit, we are able to get the car to hold boost longer and stronger all the way to the new, higher rev limit. In fact, you'll even see a nice little power bump right at 7,500 rpm -- way above where the stock power delivery has already fallen off. Here is the dyno chart bearing out this point:

What this means from behind the wheel is that the car feels more or less stock in terms of overall balance and drivability, but where the stock Evo starts to choke right around 5.5k rpm, the WORKS tuned Evo keeps pulling like a freight train all the way to nearly 8k rpm. Instead of having the power fall on its face in the upper rprm ranges, causing the driver to short shift it, the car can now be held in gear longer, making satisfying and useable power throughout the entire rev range.

I think in time the works ecu will be much better for your car. Not pushing it to hard with boost. This again will be the best bang for the buck if you want to have your evo driveable. I think he is doing the right thing by not over boosting the evo, keeping it drivable and within its limits. Just look at all the others that have modded thier evos and have troubles. No troubles = much better fun!!!!!!

Keep up the good work David!!!

If you have the works ecu reflash, can you still use a Boost controller to keep boost slightly higher than stock lets say 19lbs.
