exedy twin release bearing popout!

after 2000 miles and eleven 1/4 miles pass ,the clutch release bearing came out and cant clamp it back again.will need to pull the trans to see if pressure plate have a second chance, anybody with same problem? i think will need to set the pedal where it dont pull the pressure plate up to the limits and stress the release bearing clips.??????

Sux to hear you have to do that.

I just did that same thing on one of the customer's cars at the shop 2 nights ago.

His retaining clip came off on his Exedy triple and had the tranny off and on in 4 hours w/ the help of one of the guys.

Have fun

p.s. When you put it back on there make sure when you compress the spring loaded collar that you get all the clips to sit in each groove properly before you put it back on or it might happen again.

Hope that makes some sense....it's a bit hard to explain w/o showing you a pic etc.

i had alot of problems with this clip,i dropped the trans. a total of 4 times in like a 2 month period.what i ended it up doing was tack welding the round clip thingy to the other round thing.it held fine until i switch to my tilton and went to a push type system.now no worries.btw this was on a exedy twin.........

There are a number of other threads here regarding the same issue. Some folks recommend additional wave springs. Do a search and you'll find some fixes that others have used.

Additional wave springs, total of three (I think I have heard of four before) will help. Early EVO's came stock with one, then Exedy changed to two. Usually you hear of this happening during a launch or very rapid shift. No doubt the momentum of the arm during this type of driving is causing the bearing to pop out of place, especially if the restrictor is eliminated in the hydraulics. If additional wave springs doesn't work, a return spring on the arm will help and maybe cure the problem, but puts additional load on the bearing unlike the wave springs. What's always seemed weird to me is that the RX7 (and others) use the same bearing design and they don't even use wave springs to keep the bearing in place.

"Some folks recommend additional wave springs".

damn, too late.didnt think about this, already running installing ams gt35 kit.i need to use the clip from the old ACt pressure plate cause exedy pressure plate clip loose a few fingers trying to put it back again in the track.will keep the additional wave springs in safe place waiting to popout again and try this fix, thanks guys.
