cHanging my clutch, I got everything off from the T case to the axles, but for some reason yesterday we spend a good 1.5 hrs trying to release the throw out bearing from the pressure plate to bring the tranny down but could not. Any advice? I downlowed the step by step way to change but for some add reason the TOB just would not release. Any input is greatly app. tnx a lot...

stick a big flat head screwdriver in between the pressure plate and TOB then PUSH the clutch fork to compress the part that holds the two together. twist the flat head screw driver while holding the clutch fork compressed at the same time. might take a few tries but, make sure you use a beefy flat head.

that really is the only way....
ooo... or the LONG way... you take off the flywheel bolts one by one through the hole... it's time consuming but its the only alternative...

Trust me, I did my clutch and I was ready to just have somebody pick the car up and finish. Just stick in there and give it some muscle, it will come.

Side Note: Depending on where you have the jack make sure ALL of the bolts are removed. When I was doing my clutch, I finally got angry and kicked the jack out of the way and found I missed one of the bolts. ::embarrased::

Make sure you have the screwdriver in the correct spot when you twist.

First clutch I had to remove the pressure plate bolts, that pesky clip just would not remove.

Second time clip released first try.

Third time took about 25 minutes of fiddling.

Try spinning the engine/trans with the trans in gear. And trying again. That's what got it for the third time I did a clutch.

make sure you havn't pulled the tranny away from the engine yet before releasing...

stick in a large flathead..try to get it on the outmost edge between teh TOB and PP...pull the fork all the way and twist the flathead...

yes it is a pain and takes along time sometimes but it will pop off.. one time i had to just stop and take a half hr break..when i got back it came right off.

you can force the clutch fork the opposite direction and the TOB should get unclipped.
i just rebuilt my twin disk and that was the only way we could get it to come out...the screwdriver method didnt work...we were going at it for a while...even used different sized pry bars and still nothing...so we pushed the clutch fork towards the passenger side til the TOB came out.

basically you have to putch fork so its closing the gap between it and the pressure plate... direction would depend on how your looking at it. but it can only be unclipped by the TOB pushing towards the pressure plate
