That's not a fair, or accurate, statement at all. There are a number of factors which impact drag racing times (1/8 or 1/4 mile), to include the following:

1. Driver (the single most important factor)
2. Track conditions (probably the second most important factor)
3. Torque (even if both cars are making 300hp and weigh the same, if one car is making say 50ft-lbs more than the other it will be quicker in drag racing)
4. Weight (obvious)
5. Gearing (a car with better gearing and requiring less shifting is going to have an advantage in drag racing

Need I say more?

Actually it is. Because I love it when guys sit around and brag about their dyno numbers (which have variances in torque, spool, power under the curve, different dyno, etc.)

Then when it actually comes down to it, their car doesn't perform. Isn't that what we're all after in then end? ...or are we just tuning and spending all this money to wave our dyno charts around?

And it's nobody's fault if you can't drive.

well if your car makes power then even if you are an average driver the car will perform...

for example... at around 305whp dyno dynamics uncorrected with 3500 pounds racing weight...

my very first run ever at the dragstrip with the evo and very first drag run ever on a proper dragstrip...

60ft - 2.148
1/8 - 8.39
1/8 speed - 85
1/4 - 12.81
1/4 speed - 113

fourth pass ever i managed

60ft - 1.723
1/8 - 7.8
1/8 speed - 87
1/4 - 12.12
1/4 speed - 114.2

even if you are not an excellent driver and you just do a decent pass the car will show what kind of power it has...

Does it smoke Mar-lboro's?

Good numbers by the way. Could you tell a difference after the FMIC, UICP, and intake?

I agree, as I stated the same thing. A dyno is a safe, controlled tuning devise, the track shows your true power, no matter how you drive.
