I was wondering if you could go with higher compression forged pistons in a stock 2.0 block to make some added power with out having to stroke it ? Or i should say can you do that or is there more to it ?

For the 1 compression point that you raise the hp is minimal compared to the extra boost threshold allowed by 1 point of lowered compression.

Plus, the lower compression allows for more room for error when it comes to tuning...

That is kinda part of what I said lol also horsepower from 1psi of boost > 1 compression point

my 2 cents

i think there is pro's and cons to high and low comp.

yes low comp you can run more boost with the loss of power, BUT if you can run lets say 2.3 bar on a high comp engine, would you really wanna run more boost than this?

when does a specific turbo run out of efficiency?

i know alot of guy's who run around 1.95 bar on high comp engines here in the uk.

ultimately speak to your tuner. he will advise you on what is best for your goals.

personally i have 2 different engines, 1 with 9.0 comp ratio, the other is 7.5 comp

low comp engine gives me more torque, but this aint on my evo. off boost its lazy, but its a race engine, so never off boost

Higher compression is not for the faint of heart. A person with a setup that doesn't change often that has the resources to get a very good tune will appreciate the higher compression motor especially on the street, d/d situations where the car sees a wide rpm range. The way a higher compression engine comes up can be nice. Assuming the setup and tune follows suit.

You better be a great tuner with a higher compression ratio. If you are gonna do it I'd reccommend upgraded rods as well so you don't end up bending a rod due to knock.

With the cost of new pistons and rods, a stroker kit is a coupel hundred away anyway.

You will more than likely kill a bearing before bending a rod, rod bending normally comes from water ingestion. On a side note, bottom line is you will only gain a slight bit power on a high compression motor vs low compression motor, but you can easily make up that minimal gain with 1 or 2 psi of boost. 2 psi of boost can get you 20 - 30 hp and 1 compression point wont do that. Plus the ability to handle knock will be better.

Fuel, makes a large difference as well.
A 10-1 motor on race gas isn't so scary.

Well, it is, just not how you're thinking it is.
