Question Help deciding on an intake/filter combo

I am running a 2006 Evo IX MR and I want to do an intake. The intake will be the first move on the front side of the engine, I will eventually do Lower I-C Pipe, Upper I-C Pipe, and a new Inter-Cooler.

I already have 3" Catback, 3" Midpipe, 3" Downpipe, Tubular Headers.

What intakes do you recommend? I haven't flashed/tuned the car yet but I plan on it eventually. I do not want to have an intake that will run like crap and require a retune right away. I want something that will run at least as good as stock until I get it tuned to run even better. I am looking at performance, and sound as well. My exhaust is very loud and I want an intake/turbo and blow-off sound I can hear (I have heard the HKS Racing Suction intake can do this)

I am afraid the car will not run right if I install an intake as well, as I have done many searches and seen some problems.

One thing: I wash under the hood quite frequently. One thing that scares me is getting water on the intake when I spray it with a hose to clean out the engine bay. I guess I can put a plastic bag with a rubberband around the intake filter end - has anyone tried this? I have been doing some searching in the forums but I have gotten mixed reviews. Feedback is appreciated.

Since you have not yet crossed the 400 hp mark, the stock box is fine. Once you do more with mods and your hp is maxed on your box there are several options that folks are running with decent success.

just add an aftermarket filter to the stock box... drill some holes on the top cover of the stock box and it will be alot louder...

oh, if you don't want to get retuned right away, but still want to hear the blow-off sound - just get a cone filter with MAF adapter and you're set...

Do any of you guys running different intakes actually wash under your hood? About once a month I give it a good spray with the hose and clean it with soap and a sponge. If I change the intake to a cone filter or something like that I would get the filter soaked. Obviously if I start the engine with the filter wet the water will get in the engine. I was thinking I could put a plastic bag over the filter and use a rubberband around the neck of it to keep it tight. Does anybody else do this?

Also - How much louder would you guys say the "blow off valve" noise gets?

Listen to this man. Bigger turbo = bigger intake. If you buy an intake now for your stock turbo, you'll end up buying another one if you do a turbo upgrade to fit that. Although I believe some intakes will work with some aftermarket turbos but not all. Correct me if i'm wrong. Just get the k&n drop in air filter for now. It's fine.

I wash under my hood about once every month or 2. Just take a plastic grocery bag and put it over the filter. Spray/wash, then take it off.

I would go with the Buschur intake system. Its been proven to make great power and yet provide excellent driveability

Here is the link, so you dont have to search for it..... https://secure.buschurracing.com/cat...4110ed7364590d

You can do it once, or twice its your call. I use this set up on my 35r. So it will work great for your future 30r aswell.
