cold weather boost!!!

well its upon us once again. the cold dense air. make sure to lower the boost levels to the correct pressure your car was tuned for.

got on it this morning and boost seemed to be hitting about 1.8-1.9 bar (26-28psi) and the car felt like it was misfireing a little bit. u could actually feel it and hear it in the exhaust. im praying it wasnt knocking but i dont think it was because my air fuels are like 11.1 WOT.

im running NGK BR8ES gapped to .022" with what is supposed to be ~ 24.65psi (1.7bar) tuned with 93 octane and meth. so i turned the boost down one full turn and i will take it out durning lunch today. hope thats enough.

Why don't you have the knock CEL patch by Tephra? CEL flashes when you're knocking eg..4 KS + and the light will flash for whatever duration you choose.

My boost has not increased much, however, i'm in miami...

when the weather is hot and the air is thick, your car isnt as efficent. your intercooler has to work hard to make that air cool and dense.

when the air is already cold and dense, your car is a lot more efficent and u will not loose any boost due to heat, or less boost i should say.

yes... colder/denser air means your getting alot more cooling but wont offset the fact your running more boost too. even stock turbos do it, just the nature of the animal (turbo)

yes it can hurt ur car, especially if ur tune is set aggressivenessly(or boost level). also knock protection in the stock ecu is very good but its not 100% perfect.

I did a thread about this 2 years ago. The main item that was to be watched was turning down your boost. And if you have a small batt. kit you might have to jump your car. I took me 40mins one day to turn on my car i wasnt to happy.

i noticed that my car was hitting higher than normal today. one other thing i noticed was that it would rev up like 400 rpm between shifts but only when over 6000RPM. any idea what that could be? i havent checked it since turning the boost down since i did that in my parking lot at work this morning.

well go out, do a pull and see for yourself. if it goes beyond 23, then get off the gas and turn it down.
