poping sputter sounds (please read)
testudo - lol i'm desperate man this is soo annoying..im supposed to be enjoying my new green turbo .. instead im on the forum tryin to fix my problem!
Compression test? i haven't done a single thing other then change turbo and injector + tune.. and swapped back to stock after hearing the sounds .. meaning my car was backfiring and poping right after i installed everything .. there was no stress on the engine whatsever.....u'd think the engine got hurt somehow?
didnt log AFR as i was supposed to do that AFTER install everything and get ready to properly log and tune my car ... because i have to make the wire for my aem WB...instead im occupied with this issue :/

Noone addressed this: What about the turbo? Shaftplay? O2 in tight?
A compression test should be done anytime big mods get added or problems occur. If it was an HG, you would be puffin blue smoke out the back.
Unscrew your oil fill cap and look inside. Im going with DV or WGA problems.

QUESTION
ok i know these couple of questions may sound really dumb and obvious .. but i don't know the answer which is why im asking..
1) When doing a boost leak test, should the car be running or not?
2) Is the air being pumped to the tester supposed to exit somewhere (im not talking about the leak). I just realised that when im doing the boost leak test, the air i pump in the tester actually remains in the system until i MANUALLY let it out. IF i dont the air stays there, and at one time the cap on the tester flew off after pumping 25psi.
Could there be an air restriction somewhere in my intake/air system somewhere causing all this? Or is the air supposed to remain in the system until i manually release it (e.g. let air out from valve).
Warrtalon if you reading this, i'd appreciate if you can read my first post and help diagnose my problem.

1. Off.
2. No. It will only exit if you depressurize it or a leak is found. You are conducting a pressure test. It will remain in there till you release it.
If everything else is stock, and all you installed were turbo and injectors, its obvious its your turbo, injectors or tune.

just for reference, the evo green i installed is NEW.
adx - i doubt it was my H/G. I was thinking DV problems until i tried 2 other oem ix DV's. same problem. I really thought it was a DV. I installed it correctly as well :/
HELP !

adx - i put back my pre-injector tune and stock injectors and it's still doing it. I only left the new turbo in.
Would you think the turbo is bad? it's new though. I'm swapping turbo's with a friend tomorrow to see.
I keep on thinking it has to be an air problem somewhere, either exhaust or pre-turbo..

So how did you do the leak test? It does kinda sound like you got a big hole somewhere and the air/boost is escaping out.
I know you said OEM. I just wanted to make sure, you know there's OEM for IX and OEM for VIII.

oops sorry .. i meant the oem for the ix (as they are different)
boost leak test was done at the intake pipe (removed the cone filter). There is actually no air escaping. I was asking if air is supposed to exit somewhere or do you have to manually let it out. According to members, im doing it right.
I can't seem to think of anything else until i swap turbo's tomorrow

your running rich as hell whether you think so or not if the car is backfiring like crazy you are running too rich go over the manifold and make sure everything is tight, check the intercooler and intercooler piping, then get tuned your injectors may not be scaled correctly check that as well
i have seen exact same thing that is happening to you in two different situations...
1) just as silver05bullit described
2) when my friend with an evo IX installed VIII sparks plugs by "mistake" at the dealership.
goodluck..
btw...little off-topic...who is tuning the car for you?
