from what i understand, the timing belt is not touched during a turbo swap. could it just have gone bad at the same time by chance?

what you say makes sense, i just don't see how it has gone bad if i havent touched it. either way, ill check into it tomorrow and let you know.

this is really pissing me off, how such a thing can happen from a turbo swap. And even after putting everything back i still can't get it to stop popping!

is this extreme popping normal? some say it's normal but it just don't think it is, it wasn't there before. and it one pop after another.

It must be something from the turbo swap, what can go bad or wrong in turbo swap to cause excessive popping sounds in the exhaust.

OMG dude... I know EXACTLY what your problem is......

I had the same EXACT problem and tried EVERYTHING and FINALLY got it resolved...

I installed a TON of parts at the same time... I mean a TON of parts at the same time.. including turbo, manifold, injectors, cams, head studs.. so on and so on..

along with an AEM WIDEBAND..

the popping noise was at idle and when reved.. it was ANNOYING as heck and scared the **** out of me..

The problem ended up being the installation of the wideband.. wires were touching each other .. so try to reinstall the wideband.. it HAS to be that..

that's what it was for me .

Good luck!

i'll recheck the plugs, although i changed them when i got the problem.

boost3dxevo - my poping sound comes when coasting around 20km/h and reving on neutral between 2500-3500.

only when the car is moving though .. at idle nothing .. reving at idle nothing..

how was yours exactly..

sounds like who ever tuned it prolly has the wrong timing in it, or like someone posted your injectors arent scaled right, are your injector seals leaking? my guess your timing map is prolly fubar'd, are you gettin any knock in your log when it starts popping?

When you reconnected the new turbo did you make sure to check the intake pipe an see if there is no leaks there.also the primary o2 sensor plug could have a bent pin since you most likly disconnected it sometime during install.also exhaust mani gasket leaks can throw off o2 readings since it not only leaks carbon but draws in o2 causing the ecu to richin the mix sometime too much to burn at lower engine speeds .also a clogged cat can cause reverse intake backfires.
