evo 8 transfer case .
if you have the death whine its done for. you'll need a new one and you'll just be wasting money sending it to shep. however, with the new one you buy, letting shep go over it before you put it back in the car is a great idea.
You'll spend that extra for the ring&pinion and get an equal to a new transfer case for less money.

death whine? (Sorry I just bought an 03 evo with 118K on it for cheap and I'm new to the car so still learning)
I'm assuming that's what I hear when I drive in 1st/2nd gear at low speeds? Its pretty high pitch and almost sounds like a supercharger whine? I talked to the previous owner and the car has had the whine for a long time now and it runs/drives fine... I'll have to take a look at it further.

if it is just bearings (no gear issues) then any AllTrans transmission shop can rebuild it cheap. But the best bet is either TRD or Shep. They do a few things specifically for high load/tq applications for the Evo.
