weird noise is it constant all the time? i think i remember my car sort of sounding like that when its at idle and the a/c compressor is running.

either way i don't think its the belt per say, unless its like a tensioner or pulley problem

bad bearing. alt., w.p., p.s., a.c. comp., its really hard to play guess the sound without actually seeing the car. pull your belts and see if one of the accessory's has a bad bearing.

It kinda sounds like a plastic sound. I wonder if something is rubbing inside your timing cover...

it only happens with the engine is warmed up and driven it for a while. The car idles, accelerates just fine. No lost of power.

I currently have the same problem too. It only happens when the car is running for awhile and at idle afterwards. It kinda sounds like a baby rattling toy is in my engine bay..ahah..I took it to the dealership and they said that it was an ongoing thing to all IXs and that Mitsubishi is aware of it. But they have no fix for it and says that there isn't anything wrong with our cars. I hate the noise and it bothers me so I've been bugging them about it. I told them that it could be the tensioners or belts. Our dealership in California has made a fix on one of the Evos here and it has stopped it but when I sent mines in to get it fixed under warranty, they said Mitsubishi in Japan is researching the issue. I guess they're just stalling time b/c it is a $500.00 job not including labor at dealership cost, so they don't want a buncha evos coming in and costing them money. Look it up at the dealership for belt tensioner changes and related issues. It's a pretty expensive job for them. Please let me know if any of you get this issue fixed b/c i've been pushing them for months to fix mines but still no luck.

There is no more sign of that noise. It just magically went away. I guess it wasn't anything serious.

I have what seems to be a similar problem. Have like a high pitch sound comin from the driver side. First happened when i was driving after car was warmed up on the expressway and would get loud n the quiet loud and quiet. Then after i turned my car off for like an hour sound went away. Now 2 weeks later sound is back but seems worse now high pitch sound then somewhat of a rattle. then when i was still drivin home you could hear a windin noise on the drivers side the whole time. when it was really loud and winding i could even feel it on the pedals. No loss of power or anything though. When i got home tried to check it out but it was dark so all i could do is hear the winding noise. But then when i turned off my car and just turned on accesories u could hear winding or rattling noise comin wat seemed under the drivers seat or closer to the front thats just with the accesories on

So i took my car to work and put it on the lift. took out the clips from around my left front tire and saw wat was making the buzzing sound. Its like a black motor looking thing with wat looks like a canistor attached to the side. I disconnected it and the buzzing sound went away. Connected it and it came back. So i know where its coming from i just dont know what that component is called anyone have any clue? Looks like its connected to the intake system
