The guy builds a good motor but his last name isnt Christ.. I am sure there have been blown motors over the years but lets all remember tuning is what kills alot of motors not poor engine building.. I have read of shep stating that he still has his spare Dave built him and is on the original motor.. Even if shep blew a motor, its expected at 75psi and Nitrous or whatever he runs...

I'm making this post in defense of people saying they've seen failed motors from so and so, even though our name wasen't mentioned.

Guys I've seen failed motors from almost every builder imaginable. If you build enough of them, failures WILL happen. Most of which are of no fault of the engine builder. Between the shpos mentioned, we've built THOUSANDS upon THOUSANDS of engines. Don't make up your mind based on ONE guy on the internet saying he's seen a ______ motor fail once.

Improper install, initial startup and break-in procedure, tuning, pushing parts to the edge, and or failure of elminating existing contamination are the most common culprates. The worst part is, once a major failure has occured, tracking down the exact cause without speculation is VERY VERY difficult.

Working for AMS, it would be easy for me to sit here and say that Buschur motors suck, or JAM sucks to try and get a sale for us. But thats just not the case. We all know what we are doing and we are all good at what we do. The results from AMS and Buschur speak for themselves over and over again.

Thanks Chris for the kind words. Like everyone out there building engines, we've all had engine that have blown up or failed. Anyone claiming they have not is a bold face liar and bold face liars do exist haha

Tarmacisback69, Shep didn't race last year which would be 2007. So if you saw anything break it was in 2006. In 2006 John had an engine that blew up from his new mechanical fuel pump failing, that was an engine that lasted him the entire 2005 season. Then he had some fail from oiling issues, John isn't very quick to listen to what I have to say about anything. The engines that failed on him in 2006 were from starving the engine from oil during acceleration and shutting down with the chute out. Just so we are clear.

Good question I'm curious too. Dave have you had any retail customer engine failures due to oil starvation like from launching or hard acceleration? Was there a solution?

ifarted posted a pick of an oil pan mod he did.

For a weekend racer the stock oil pump/water pump are fine, no need to change them.

The EVO has a decent windage tray in the pan from the factory. We have not had any oiling issues on the EVO's.

There as a dry sump built for the 6 bolt stuff a few years ago. Brent tried it, I bought one too. He ended up going back to a wet sump. I used a wet sump on my tube chassis car too and never had problems. I had built a special oil pan and windage tray for it though. Brent's and my old tube chassis car were both RWD of course.

So Shep was the only one that suffered from this problem?

Seriously, can we stop with the engine failures questions? Stuff happens, things break. If you can't tell who the good engine builders are by now, you may never.

The reason I am asking is because I myself have had an oil pump failure, and one possible theory was brief oil starvation from acceleration. I heard Dave and then Dan mention it. I think it is a fair question.

People buying a built 2 litre are looking to make over 500 hp more than likely. Oil pressure is a pretty serious concern at those levels and I want to hear what DB says.

crcain, yes, I'd say Shepherd was the only one who has suffered from this problem.

Thanks David. If I ever need a new engine (knock wood ), it would probably be one I put together myself, or a Buschur engine.
