There are always threads popping up about "Who's engine should I buy?" Of course all of us vendors hop in there and make our comments about why we are the best. I can make a long list of the records our engines have set over the years and records that still haven't been broken.
What I'd rather do is show some pictures of some pistons and bearings that came out of our two fastest cars here at the shop. So without further delay here are some photos:
This first one is a picture of all four pistons that came out of our black shop car. This engine was in the car since October of 2006 through October of 2007. It was a 2 liter, has seen over 11,000 rpm, over 50 psi of boost. Quite a bit of dyno time, MANY track passes and this is what was in the car when it ran 8.88 and the 172.4 mph record MPH pass. The engine eventually split a cylinder wall (stock block not hard blocked). We took it apart to change the head gasket and freshen it up and found it cracked.
This next picture is of my RS's engine. The engine has been in the car since about March of 2006. I blew a head gasket on the dyno a few weeks ago and we pulled the head off today. It has NEVER been touched other than this time. While the head was off I figured I'd take a look at the internals. As you can see these pistons are fairly old as there is no coating on the skirts. You'll note there is no "black death" on them or any other signs of anything not being right. This engine has probably had more abuse than any other engine I've ever run. Dyno runs have to be well in excess of 150. This is the engine that was in for all the EVO Green testing, cam testing, 35r testing, header, manifold, 02 housing testing. It ran 10's on the green, ran a BUNCH of 9's on the 35r. Best pass was 9.65 at 151 mph. Boost is set daily to 40+ psi. It's been as high as 46 psi and that's when the head gasket blew. I am amazed personally.
These next two pictures are just of bearings. Very very good shape especially when you take into consideration that I didn't realize the head gasket was blown until after I was done on the dyno. The oil as you can see is full of water/antifreeze. There is some slight checking on the bearings but I attribute this to the water/anitfreeze contamination.
Last picture is just of the crank to show how nice the journals still are.

jk, looks good dave, now put it back together for another 20k miles!
Bores were in great shape, I touch honed them to clean them up for the new rings.
The black car never saw anything but VP Import.
My RS has run 93-94 octane, E85, VP E98, my own mixture of E98 and 94 octane and mostly C16.
Had the head gasket not blown I have no idea how long it would have lasted. The bearings/pistons etc. are as good as they get.
I don't know how many miles are on this engine. The car only has about 8,000 miles on it total. I didn't note the mileage when I put the engine in. Car is a 2004, engine was put in "2" years ago. I don't drive it between November'ish and April'ish as I won't take it in the snow and salt here.
